Partridge Whistle turned to look at the end of the passage again, but Li Xiaohu blocked his eyes.
"Don't look," Li Xiaohu explained. "You were just under an illusion."
"Illusion?" Everyone was taken aback upon hearing this!
Li Xiaohu nodded affirmatively, then asked, "Did you just see a pair of giant eyes staring at you?"
Partridge Whistle nodded repeatedly.
Li Xiaohu explained, "There's something fishy about those eyes."
"If you keep staring at it, it will disturb your vision, confuse your mind, and then you will gradually lose yourself and fall into a daze."
Hong Guniang said, "Then why don't we just stop staring at it?"
Li Xiaohu chuckled and explained, "It's not as simple as you think."
"Those eyes are right in front of the passage. If you don't keep your eyes on them while you walk, you won't be able to see the road ahead."
"As you just saw, the end of the passage is a bottomless abyss."
"Walking without being able to see the road can lead to a fall into an abyss."
Upon hearing this, Hong frowned and said, "But if you keep staring straight ahead, you'll be hypnotized by what you said about eyes."
"Then what should we do?"
The faces of the others gradually showed signs of irritability and anxiety.
They didn't even understand why they were hypnotized by a pair of eyes.
Li Xiaohu answered their questions.
"The principle of hypnosis is actually very simple."
"Can you smell a strange fragrance in this passage?"
1.6 Partridge Whistle sniffed, then nodded and said, "Indeed, there is a very faint fragrance."
"It smells quite nice," Hua Ling added.
Li Xiaohu added, "There's something wrong with this strange fragrance."
Hua Ling quickly covered her nose.
"In addition, a beam of moonlight shines directly on those eyes from outside the passage, making you involuntarily look over there."
"Once you stare into those eyes, all you'll see in your field of vision will be those eyes!"
"Everything around you will disappear from your consciousness, leading you step by step toward those eyes without you even realizing it."
"Then you fall into an abyss!"

Everyone frowned.
No wonder there were no barriers at the entrance to the passage.
So that's what they were up to!
An accident.
You will fall victim to this and plunge into an abyss!
"Then what should we do?" Partridge Whistle asked anxiously.
They can't just be stopped here.
Li Xiaohu said without changing his expression, "Brother Partridge Whistle, please calm down."
"The illusions here sound mysterious, but they're really nothing special."
"All we need to do is focus our minds, avoid making eye contact with those eyes, and slowly walk to the exit."
The girl in red then asked, "But didn't you say we can't not watch where we're going?"
Li Xiaohu bent down and patted a few cats, saying, "We don't have to watch where we're going."
"But they can."
Civets are all spiritually extraordinary creatures.
Cats' eyes also have a unique structure, allowing them to see everything clearly in the dark.
Those eyes might be a nuisance to humans, but they're not a problem at all for them.
The others immediately understood.
They lined up in a row, closed their eyes, and tugged at the hem of the person in front of them.
Then, led by several cats, they slowly walked towards the exit.
Didn't go long.
The leader, Jin Yunu, stopped and let out a "meow".
21 Everyone opened their eyes.
They discovered that they had exited the passage and arrived at a platform located below and to the side of the passage.
The passage leads directly into the abyss.
You have to walk slowly along the edge of the passage to get to this platform.
The group raised torches and began to observe their surroundings.
It turns out this is a natural underground cave!
At the bottom was a dark ravine; if you threw a tinder into it, it would take a long time to see it fall to the bottom.
It was like a bottomless abyss.
Everyone watching felt a chill run down their spines and quickly looked away.
They gazed towards the other side of the abyss.
That's when I discovered it.
The eyes they saw in the passageway turned out to be the eyes of a huge reclining Buddha statue on the opposite bank!
A beam of moonlight descended from the cave ceiling, shining directly on its eye, drawing everyone's attention.
"Ha," Partridge Whistle chuckled, "Who would build such a large reclining Buddha in the mountains?"
"How strange!"
The crowd watched from across the river.
Even in the dim moonlight, the grandeur of this reclining Buddha is still evident!
The reclining Buddha is a sleeping Buddha.
He lay on his side, his right hand supporting his chin. He was about sixteen or seventeen zhang long, and beneath him was a huge lotus-shaped stone platform.
Built against the mountain, the entire structure is carved from the mountain's own stone, but it is decorated with all sorts of gorgeous jewels.
There is still a lot of gold paint on the surface that has not been peeled off.
This is enough to show how luxurious it used to be.
The group looked around a few more times.
They found that the mountains were all natural formations, and no other cave entrances or passageways were seen.
Li Xiaohu stated bluntly, "The passage to the underground palace of the tomb is on that reclining Buddha statue."
That's exactly what happened.
Partridge Whistle nodded upon hearing this, then turned and instructed the old foreigner to attach grappling hooks to the arrows before shooting them at the other side.
The old foreigner was an exceptional archer.
He precisely wedged the arrow, which had been fitted with a grappling hook, into the gap between the sleeping man's fingers.
Partridge Whistle tied the other end to a boulder behind him.
Then, after giving it a hard tug and confirming that there was nothing wrong, he volunteered to scout ahead for everyone.
Li Xiaohu and the others did not stop them.
They watched as Partridge Whistle slowly crossed the abyss along the rope and slid to the other side.
Partridge Whistle reached the Buddha statue on the opposite bank, reinforced the ropes for them again, and then loudly signaled for them to cross.
Old Yangren, Hua Ling, and Hong Guniang all easily slid down the rope to the other side.
Li Xiaohu's civets didn't even need any protective measures; they boldly climbed up the rope one after another to the other side.
Even the fattest water-crossing cat walks steadily on the rope.
Even if you accidentally slip and fall.
It also has a thick tail that is always hooked onto the rope, so there is no way it could be in danger.
