Chapter 41: Because I am Spider-Man
Chapter 41: Because I am Spider-Man
The lab where Connors and Otto were located could also observe the Spider-Man fight.
Compared to Otto's occasional outbursts of slamming his fist on the table and cursing these idiots for using tentacles like that, this was a far cry from the usual outbursts.
Connors became much quieter.
His carefully formulated lizard serum, after being modified, is not as wild as the original version, but it is still threatening to ordinary people.
In addition, Norman Osborn has now demanded that Spider-Man be captured alive.
He wasn't surprised at all that the three-headed lizard man could be defeated by Spider-Man.
It's just a pity.
Even if Peter defeats this group of six, there are other groups of six waiting for him.
They would have to release these people as soon as Norman gave the order.
It's like a gladiator cage.
Spider-Man will face wave after wave of attacks unless he is captured.
"Um?"
"What's wrong?"
Otto glanced at his watch and said, "The timing of the order is slightly off from what I expected... Has something gone wrong? Or should we just release them?"
"Let's wait a little longer."
Connors shook his head. He didn't want the child to get hurt any further, and he wanted to stall for as long as possible.
"Alright."
The man, whose full name is Otto Octavius, has a somewhat carefree attitude. He's not particularly interested in capturing Spider-Man; he's more interested in the effects of his inventions than in capturing someone alive.
The two waited for several minutes, and just as they were wondering what had happened, the laboratory door suddenly opened.
The boss was still sitting in a wheelchair, and the person pushing the wheelchair was still... wait a minute!
Why was Spider-Man the one pushing Norman's wheelchair?!
And why is there a raven perched on Spider-Man's shoulder?!
What does it mean when the crow saw them and flapped its wings again?
The two were not exactly at the same level of astonishment, but they were not far apart either.
Connors knew that Peter had a crow that was extremely intelligent, but this... was just too intelligent!
Good morning, Dr. Connors.
Spider-Man pushed Norman into the laboratory.
Noticing Norman's lips twitching as if he wanted to say something, Spider-Man promptly pointed a finger at him, threateningly saying:
"You have no right to speak here. I'll pull your breathing tube if you don't!"
Norman: ......
It turns out that the breathing tube and oxygen tank that Oz had previously removed had been reinstalled by Spider-Man.
Norman snorted in dissatisfaction and closed his eyes, refusing to look at him.
The scene was too surreal for Otto and Connors. If they didn't know Norman's character, they would never have mistaken this guy who looked like a good boy for Norman!
"Spider-Man... how did you..." Connors stammered, unsure of what to say.
Spider-Man shook his head and said, "Let's get ready to take samples."
"Taking a sample?" Otto, who was standing nearby, was shocked and blurted out, "You mean you'd still save him even after he treated you like that?"
Norman raised his eyelids and gave Otto a disapproving look.
Otto, still shaken, ignored it and stared at the eyes peeking out from under the tattered spider mask.
He was certain that the person behind the mask was very young.
"You're not acting like Spider-Man, you're acting like a saint."
"..."
Connors and Otto shared the same idea.
In his view, even if Peter simply hid and went into hiding for a while, it would be enough to kill Norman.
Why save him under these circumstances?
"Mind if we talk somewhere else, Spider-Man?" Connors was ready to have a serious talk with Peter.
"Count me in," Otto said. He had just offended his boss and didn't have the nerve to stay there.
Norman wanted to speak up, but the crow flew in front of him and kept fiddling with his breathing tube, threatening him to try and open his mouth.
Try and die.
Spider-Man released his grip on the wheelchair armrests. "No need to change locations, Doctor. Right here, let's get this straight."
"I know you're all wondering why I chose to be Spider-Man."
He tugged at his tattered spider suit, his tone utterly composed.
"After I gained this ability, one of my relatives passed away because of me."
"I paid the price for my inaction."
Even now, I can't forgive myself for what I did that day.
Connors noticed that Spider-Man's brown eyes were glistening with tears.
"I take full responsibility for what happened to him, and I've decided to transform that responsibility into a special kind of feeling."
"To support me in becoming Spider-Man."
Spider-Man raised his arm and clenched his fist. "I'm never afraid of what I'll face, even if the road is full of thorns and dangers."
"I am Spider-Man. When I'm around, no one will die. That's the new rule I set for myself."
At this point, he glanced at Norman Osborn, who met his gaze with a complex expression.
Spider-Man said, "I hope you understand one thing, Norman Osborn."
"My choice to save you is not just about saving your life; I simply don't want your son to see his father die because of some mistake."
After finishing his explanation, Spider-Man scanned the laboratory and located the blood collection device.
He walked over, picked it up, and handed it to Connors.
"Let's begin."
"..."
......
......
......
"A stupid, pushover."
While Otto may not be as knowledgeable about genes as the professional Connors, he can still assist him without much trouble.
Connors did not respond, but silently analyzed Spider-Man's blood sample.
"Although he's a pushover, his reasoning is actually quite sound."
Otto glanced back at Spider-Man, who was bandaging his wounds, and at the crow playing with Norman's breathing tube. The next second, Spider-Man saw him and quickly slapped the crow on the head. Only then did the crow reluctantly put the breathing tube back into Norman's nostril.
Norman didn't say a word the whole time, his eyes were somewhat unfocused, and it was unclear what he was thinking.
"Don't you have anything to say?" Otto asked Connors beside him.
Connors simply shook his head and then said something completely irrelevant.
The sound was bright enough that everyone in the laboratory could hear it clearly.
"It's beyond saving," he said.
"What?"
Connors turned to Spider-Man and said, "Your blood is poisonous, Spider-Man."
Spider-Man paused, taken aback.
Norman immediately pressed, "What do you mean his blood is poisonous? Why would his blood be poisonous?!"
Connors sighed and explained, "I'm sorry, Norman, but you have to accept it."
"Spider-Man's blood is somewhat aggressive. If his blood were injected into your body, your organs would be corroded within an hour."
"In other words, his blood has been tampered with."
"To be precise, it's because their genes are bound together. Aside from him gaining spider abilities, anyone else who gets close to him will die."
Upon hearing this news, Spider-Man's mind went blank for a moment. After a long while, Norman's voice stunned him again.
"You're Richard's son!?"
"Peter Parker?"
—————— (Easter egg)
Norman was quite troubled by the crow that kept fiddling with his breathing tube.
He asked Spider-Man, "Is there any way to stop it from pulling out my breathing tube?!"
Spider-Man said, "Yes."
"What?"
"Give him some monthly tickets."
