Chapter 32: Won the Big Prize
Chapter 32: Won the Big Prize
"Stop being Spider-Man, Peter."
"Why?!"
Upon hearing this, Peter frowned. He hadn't expected the conversation the doctor had called him over for today to be like this.
After all that talk, the result was actually convincing myself not to become Spider-Man?
"Doctor, why would you say such a thing?" Peter wanted to stand up and question the other person, but his tutor told him it was best not to do so.
"I know, I know..." Connors seemed to regret his words, his face filled with a complex expression.
He said, "We solved the lizard crisis together last night, and now I'm telling you not to be Spider-Man. I know it's strange."
"But Peter, you must listen to my advice."
"You are in a dangerous situation right now."
"You're being watched!"
Peter asked, "By whom?"
Connors said, "Norman Osborn."
At that moment, Oz let out a girlish scream.
"Morgan Freeman, you've been targeted by another Uncle Ben!"
Peter pinched Oz's mouth shut in annoyance. He would rather ask Oz this question later than now.
Oz, who could still speak even with his mouth pinched, said:
"Let me guess, it's probably because your appearance gave him hope of survival, so he wanted to start research on your blood... Oh my god, how could Osborn be so wicked!"
"Peter, I suggest you hide for half a month or a year, and then reappear when he is about to die, and go to his bedside to say it."
"Look at this poor goblin, is it about to cry?"
"I guarantee this is definitely more practical than simply providing blood for treatment..."
Peter took a deep breath and ignored Oz's nonsensical ramblings.
He then voiced his doubts to Connors, as if asking both Oz and Connors.
"Why? Why is he targeting me? I haven't done anything wrong!"
Connors's subsequent answer was similar to Oz's guess.
"Remember the lizard serum? Look what I'm saying... How could you possibly forget...?"
Connors was somewhat incoherent. "Listen, the serum was removed for the benefit of society, and a large part of the reason was to save Norman Osborn."
"He had a disease that I didn't examine in detail, but I know he spent a lot of effort trying to cure his symptoms, and eventually even placed his hopes on our cross-species genetic research..."
"Child, you have no idea how strong his desire to live was."
After listening, Peter's expression changed for a moment, and then he said:
"What if I treat him?"
"..."
Connors was initially silent after Peter's words, then he looked the kid over a few times, and then couldn't help but laugh, as if he couldn't hold it in.
Peter was confused by this scene and asked in bewilderment:
"What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
Oz slapped his head with his wing. "What do you think he called you over today and said all that for? Just for fun? Kind and naive silly Parker."
"But he is Harry's father after all. If I can help him, I'm helping Harry..." Peter said softly.
"..."
"No, I don't recommend you do that," Connors said at this point.
Seemingly afraid Peter would ask further, Connors continued, "You don't understand his character, you don't know what he'll do with your blood, and Peter, don't forget, to some extent, you're a mutant. Are you really comfortable just handing over your blood like that?"
Peter remained silent.
Connors explained again: "Just today, he found me and told me to get ready to study your blood, which is Spider-Man research."
"He's changed. Both his personality and appearance are different from before."
"I know you're a kind child, but sometimes kindness can become your weakness. He's not as simple as I make him out to be; he's dangerous."
"So listen to me, Peter, at least for now, don't play Spider-Man anymore."
......
......
......
Peter walked home, his mind preoccupied.
His mind was constantly filled with Dr. Connors's words of advice, such as "Give up, Peter, stop being Spider-Man."
Or perhaps he'll play Peter Parker for a while, and then Spider-Man will be buried first.
Peter didn't know what to do.
He chose to become Spider-Man not only for Uncle Ben, but also for the sake of his past self who regretted his past choices.
He would do his best to help others in any way he could.
Instead of saying, "There's someone who's about to die, he's dangerous, he's a bad guy, so you kill him off first and then re-enact the role."
What's more, this person is the father of my good friend.
"So, you're not going to say anything?"
Peter noticed a black crow flying among the trees, its wings flapping wildly, knocking away all the birds perched on the branches and causing the flock to squawk sharply.
Oz slapped away the bird that attacked him and turned around to say:
"What did you say?"
"It's those things Connors said! He told me not to play Spider-Man anymore, or not to play him for a while..."
"Then don't pretend. It's such a simple problem."
"But... never mind, forget I asked."
Peter knew he wouldn't get any answers from Oz; aside from offering some help at certain times, Oz was entirely on his own.
You should get used to it.
Peter sighed, took his keys from his pocket, and pushed open the door.
"I'm back, Mei."
No one answered him at home.
Peter noticed a small note on the dining table in the living room. He walked over, picked it up, and glanced at it.
"Dinner is already heated up and in the microwave. Remember to eat it all, we have to work overtime tonight."
The last sentence, "I have to work overtime tonight," was followed by a crying face emoji, which made the whole note look a bit cuter.
Peter couldn't help but laugh, but quickly suppressed his laughter.
He really wanted to tell Aunt Mei that she didn't need to work so hard, and that he could help her too.
But it seems that Connors' recent decision to stop him from playing Spider-Man has ruined this potentially helpful job?
Thinking about this, my appetite decreased significantly.
But you still have to eat.
He had just taken dinner out of the microwave when Oz flew back from outside, shook his feathers, and looked rather displeased.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Who said bird nests could produce the Star of Africa? I've searched all the bird nests nearby and haven't found one."
Oz jumped onto the table and glanced at his dinner: another Italian meat pie.
"This doesn't look appetizing. You can eat it yourself. I'm going to the docks to steal some fries from others."
"..."
After saying that, Oz flapped his wings and flew away, leaving Peter alone at home.
Peter could only shrug helplessly, while apologizing for the guys whose fries were about to be stolen by Oz.
Peter ate his dinner very quickly, probably because no one was talking to him.
After washing the dishes, my phone rang.
He wiped his water-stained hands and glanced at the contact person.
It's Gwen.
As soon as the call connected, I heard a sweet voice on the other end say:
Good evening, Spider-Man.
The taste of love always brings joy, Peter smiled and replied:
Good evening, Gwen.
"So are you either Spider-Man saving the world or staying at home?" Gwen asked.
"Stay at home."
The person on the other end of the phone said "very good," which Peter didn't quite understand.
next second.
There was a knock on the door.
The voice on the phone said, "You've won the lottery, Spider-Man! There's a movie starting tonight, and I happen to have two tickets. Want to go together?"
......
......
... (Still time for a bonus scene)
Peter, Gwen, and Oz watched a movie about a hitman called John Wicker.
After watching it, Oz stopped eating fries and drinking cola, and just stood on the windowsill all day, gazing outside.
Peter and Gwen were very worried about this, and one day they each brought a hamburger and fries.
"Eat something, Oz, you haven't eaten for days," Peter and Gwen said.
Oz glanced back at the food in their hands and said:
"This is not what I want."
"Then what do you want?" The young couple asked, puzzled.
"Monthly passes, lots of monthly passes," Oz replied.
