Chapter 422 Suspicion
Chapter 422 Suspicion
Chapter 422 Suspicion
Xinghuo carefully fastened the cape on the shoulder straps: "Be careful in everything."
After a passionate encounter with Xinghuo, Joey indeed felt much better.
Indeed, even saving the world requires a balance of work and rest; a short break can inspire boundless hope for the future.
Just as Joey was thinking this, Batman mysteriously showed up at the door: "Do you believe me, Superman?"
"Of course I believe you." Joey felt like he had just woken up from a nap, wondering if Batman had taken the wrong medicine: "Why do you ask that?"
""
"There's a secret," Batman whispered after looking around. "Tony Stark is suspicious."
"So what if there's a problem? What's wrong with that?"
Joey thought to himself, "Which of you superheroes doesn't have a few psychological issues? If you put together some of the more extreme ones, you could make several 'Psycho' movies."
But Batman's next words surprised him: "It's not the problem you're thinking of; it's that Iron Man is no longer 'Tony.'"
"So you mean Tony Stark has been possessed by Doctor Doom?"
Joey hadn't expected such an outrageous yet foreshadowed development: "When did this happen?"
Batman wouldn't make things up about something this important; the most urgent thing is to ensure the safety of the original Tony: "Where is Tony?"
"It's likely that Tony was replaced before or after he left this universe and acquired the Space Stone; Jarvis wasn't destroyed as he claimed."
Batman discovered the problem while erasing the memories of those AI butlers: "Doctor Doom used some methods to replace Tony's own memories into Jarvis's AI, which is why his personal AI suddenly changed to 'Edith'."
The information Batman provided was largely consistent with Tony's previous actions; Tony had indeed stopped using Jarvis, which Joey couldn't help but believe.
It now seems that dealing with these powerful magical beings once and for all is no easy task. Even the Ancient One, who was determined to fight to the death, was unable to completely eliminate him.
However, we can't entirely blame the Ancient One for being ineffective. After all, even a dark lord like Voldemort, who didn't live up to his name, could survive using several Horcruxes, let alone a top-tier boss like Doctor Doom who was skilled in both physical and magical combat.
"First, I'll keep an eye on him. Second, we need to figure out a way to take the initiative and control him before he can react."
Joey, who had just built up a good mood with Spark, could no longer smile. He rubbed his hands nervously: "Of course, we must first ensure the safety of the original Tony."
This is the most difficult part of the whole situation. The other side has a hostage, and we can't let them get desperate and do something rash.
Doctor Doom is in the shadows, while they are in the light. It's difficult enough to target each other by moving from the light to the shadows, but the implied risk of killing the hostage makes Joey's side have to be even more cautious when making their move.
Joey, who had just woken up to this huge problem, was frowning deeply, but then he quickly thought of something more crucial: "Right, have you guys cleaned up the battlefield?"
"What battlefield?" Batman asked, puzzled. "The Green Lantern Corps controlled it very well, and everything behind it has been blown up."
Before Batman could finish speaking, he saw Joey vanish in front of him with a whoosh.
Joey soared into the air, determined its direction, and began its frantic underground advance, its bio-force field cleaving through the rock layers, heading straight for the Hydra secret base where it had previously encountered the Sentinels.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
Upon arriving at the underground base, which was mostly collapsed, Joey activated his thermal vision to evaporate the obstructing soil and rock, and uncovered the location he remembered.
After removing the thick, fortified reinforced concrete, Joey counted the bodies buried underground and found that there were far fewer than he remembered.
When Joey first came into contact with the zombie Sentinels, one of them took a moment to pounce on the unconscious Hydra agents, satisfying his thirst for flesh.
At the time, Joey was too busy dealing with the zombie sentinels to clean up the mess caused by the bite.
Now, after carefully scanning the mostly inhuman corpses before him, Joey's heart sank.
There should have been more corpses here, instead of just completely dead limbs that are difficult to transform into zombies.
The zombie virus here is no ordinary virus; those infected will be driven by a constant hunger to devour flesh and blood.
But this does not mean that they will become the kind of zombies that the public imagines, devoid of any intelligence and acting only on instinct.
They are able to speak, think, and possess memories and wisdom from their previous lives.
These people are all highly trained Hydra agents; once infected, who knows what they might do?
Joey himself had passed out and there was nothing they could do. With so many people around, why didn't they realize they should re-examine the location where the zombie sentinels had appeared?
With things having come to this point, Joey had no choice but to use his super senses to scan the area and try to salvage the situation.
But the more urgent the situation, the more obstacles there were. Joey, scanning the entire surface and underground of New York with his super vision, became increasingly agitated.
His scanning efficiency was currently being hampered by the dense network of underground water pipes, which made him burst into a tirade: "Damn New York City Hall, a bunch of parasites! What era are we living in? There are still so many lead pipes underground!"
In the early stages of urban planning and construction, lead was frequently used for underground water pipes due to its softness, ease of shaping, suitability for welding joints, and outstanding corrosion resistance.
But that was in the 20th or even 19th century. Lead has long since been proven to be harmful and is now completely banned.
Why, even in this day and age, are there still so many lead pipes underground in New York City?
Not only do they exist, but these lead-containing pipes still exist in the New York underground water pipe network in the tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands.
What are those bastards in the city hall good for? If Joey were to make the decision now, they should all be dragged out and shot!
"I think you've blamed the wrong person."
Although Joey's ascent and descent were not very loud, Tony still saw them.
So, following the path Superman had taken, Iron Man was the first to follow: "Replacing underground pipes isn't the city hall's responsibility; it's the New York DEP (Environmental Protection Agency) that's in charge of maintenance."
.
With a clatter, Iron Man's Iron Man suit opened from the front. Tony raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, about to say something sarcastic, when he suddenly saw the pile of dismembered corpses in the corner.
"Sector D!"
Upon seeing this, Tony's expression changed, and he turned around and began to dump everything he had eaten from last night to today into his stomach.
"yue~
"~
After emptying his stomach, Tony, still retching, left without his armor and with his back exposed to Joey, making Joey, who had just spoken with Batman, eager to make his move.
"Oh, right————"
After recovering, Tony covered his mouth and hurried back into his Iron Man suit, activating his space breathing mode before staring at Joey: "Do you trust me, Superman?"
"?"
This was the second time Joey had been asked this question, only a few minutes after waking up.
In response, Joey immediately used the same formula he used to deal with Batman a few minutes earlier: "Of course I believe you—why do you ask?"
"There's a secret," Iron Man whispered after observing his surroundings. "Batman is suspicious."
"————???"
Hearing these familiar words, with the same subject-verb-object structure as before, Joey wondered if she had fallen into some kind of cycle.
