Chapter 140 Kryptonian Mythology
The atmosphere inside the Zhenglian Watchtower was in a superposition of tension and relaxation.
The tension lies in the fact that Jor-El's bodyguards, led by Fiora Earl, are on the verge of a confrontation with Cyborg and Hawkgirl, who are behind Batman.
Kryptonians, Apokolips-based technological constructs, and Senagan Eaglemen—they have been responsible for at least 52% of the bloodshed in the universe over the past decade.
Although the Apokolips creations and Senagan eagles present at the moment were unaware of this, it did not prevent them from speculating about the Kryptonians in front of them with the utmost malice.
Starfire, whose right arm had been severed, remained unconscious. Cyborg used his drone to temporarily transport him to the treatment room for rest and recuperation.
The only thing Steelbone can be thankful for now is that the Kryptonian tigress on the other side was clean and efficient enough that the cut on Starfire's arm was neat and clean, and with the medical facilities inside the Watchtower, it's highly likely that it can still be reattached.
Cyborg was arguably the first person to know about the private affair between Superman and Starfire, and now he can't figure out how to handle the current situation after Superman's return.
Cyborg is now a prime example of multitasking. On one hand, he has to operate his main body, using a large amount of computing power to temporarily drive microsecond-level sensors, constantly on guard against the Kryptonians in front of him.
On one hand, he also had to operate several of the drones to take care of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Starfire. On the other hand, he had to reattach Starfire's severed arm as soon as possible. The longer the delay, the greater the possibility of irreversible damage to her.
Last but not least, he also had to eliminate every last Kryptonian AI that had infiltrated the Watchtower system.
In cyberspace, this unseen struggle is the most difficult part of the several threads, and even though the Watchtower and the entire Earth's network are Cyborg's own domain, the process is not easy.
Fortunately, the Kryptonians didn't seem to notice this yet, because their leader was having a pleasant conversation with Batman.
This is why the situation on the scene wasn't that tense. Jor-El, sitting on the ground, was clearly enjoying his conversation with Batman.
He discovered that the Earthling in front of him, whose entire body was covered in lead plates, had an unusually deep understanding of Krypton.
"Haha! Yes, Nightwing is indeed a lonely shadow god, whose entire life is spent hunting evil..."
Jor-El clapped his hands and laughed, as if the fact that one of the people opposite him had just tried to kill him was no big deal. He looked at Bruce Wayne in front of him with curiosity in his eyes:
"It's really interesting. I never thought you would know so much about Kryptonian mythology. Even now, Kryptonians almost only know about the sun god Raoh."
Upon hearing this, Batman didn't explain where all his knowledge came from, but simply uttered:
"I know a little bit."
The "Nightwing" they are referring to is not the same "Nightwing" as the other one. Batman and Jor-El are discussing the Kryptonian mythology.
It tells the story of how the sun god Rao created the god of creation, and how the god of creation created Krypton, and the Nightwing and Firebird gods who lived on it.
Yes, Dick Grayson's codename "Nightwing" comes from the Kryptonian mythology, and Batman's understanding of all this comes from Clark Kent.
Bruce and Clark were indeed a super team who could talk about anything.
"What else do you know, young man?"
When faced with Jor-El's question, Batman's mind raced as he tried to steer the conversation away from there.
In the conversation just now, Batman could tell that Jor-El had an almost obsessive attitude towards the Kryptonian mythology, so he simply dragged things out in that direction for a long time.
As things stand now, Batman is nearing his breaking point, even the former Clark Kent...
Kent telling himself bedtime stories every day isn't enough to keep him going like this!
Now, there's still one story about the Kryptonian mythology that hasn't been told yet—a legend about a dark and cold god...
"I can tell you're hiding a story I don't know about. I advise you to tell it quickly."
Jor-El casually glanced at Cyborg behind Batman, a slight glance that sent all of Cyborg's sensors frantically issuing warnings.
Kryptonians' super vision isn't just limited to X-ray vision.
For Cyborg, regaining control of the Watchtower teleportation system was an invisible war, but for Jor-El, who could see every proton and every beam of light, it was happening right under his nose:
"You who don't belong to this universe, hurry up and tell us before your friend takes back control of the teleportation system and gets all of you out of here."
Jor-El could see through Cyborg's actions in the shadows, including his next move.
Even Joe Al could offer some guidance:
"I sincerely advise you not to flee this base. Here, you only need to face a kind old man like me; but once you go outside, what you on Earth will face is the entire cruel universe."
Steelbone broke out in a cold sweat; the threat in the other person's words was obvious.
His attempt to regain control of the teleportation system and then escape through a portal was merely a hypothetical scenario with a success rate of less than 42%, and he might not necessarily take this extremely risky approach.
"Let me teach you, child."
Jor-El seemed to read Cyborg's mind and simply stated it directly:
"Next time you think about something like this, use the slower side of your brain. Although bioelectric signals are inefficient, their patterns are far more difficult to summarize than the signal pulses of an electronic brain."
Oh—Steelbow immediately understood after this reminder; the other party had indeed seen through his "mind".
By observing the frequency pulses on one side of his electronic brain, he summarized what he was thinking—is this scientific?
Next time, I must learn from Batman and add lead-based interlayers to all the parts I can wear.
Joe Al's voice came again: "That's one way too."
Damn it—Steelbow feels uncomfortable all over now.
When you stand in front of a weirdo who can instantly read your mind, it's hard to stay calm—Sigh—Cyborg has another idea. For example, he's mentally replaying a bunch of literary works labeled [Superman & Batman], produced in AO03, and with a very negative influence on the development of teenagers...
"I advise you not to do that."
Jor-El stared at Cyborg expressionlessly, but for the first time, Cyborg sensed murderous intent in him. He felt that Jor-El's attitude was quite serious this time.
"Don't become the sinner who causes the extinction of human civilization."
"Ahem!"
Batman cleared his throat, preparing to continue recounting the story he had heard, concerning the first and last of the Kryptonian gods, a crucial being:
"In places where the light and heat of Laos cannot reach, in the cold darkness..."
"etc."
Joe Al stood up and dusted off non-existent dust from his body:
"Thank you for your story, but let's save that for another time."
He received a message from his niece that his son had returned.
Just a second later, a series of muffled thuds of metal tearing came from the top of the watchtower.
This is the sound of Joey's body breaking through the wall of the watchtower.
Even faster than these commotions were the news of Joey himself and his fists.
Kara, behind Joey, tried her best to pull on his bright red cape, but to no avail. Even with Joey hanging on her back like a burden, she still unleashed astonishing speed.
Before anyone could react, he struck out with a punch to Jor-Al's right eye:
"Old bastard Deng!"
