The burn scar took a breath.
"You're really talking big," he finally looked the woman in front of him directly. "No matter what heinous crime I commit in the future, will you back me up? Can you cover for me?"
"I can."
There was an unusual arrogance in the woman's understated words.
"Since you're so capable, why do you still need me to do your work?"
“Because I have more important things to do, and because you are trustworthy,” she said, her voice tinged with a hint of resentment, “and you are also quite capable. Not just anyone can become a high-ranking Zeth monk by simply listening to a few things and then studying on their own.”
The man with the burn scar nodded, then shook his head.
“The benefits are significant,” he said, “but there’s nothing in this world that I’d want to stay for, so what’s the point of living?”
The woman said coldly, "What do you want?"
"I want..."
The man with the burn scars looked dejected, and laughed mockingly. "I want to turn back time, I want to remember the time three years ago when I lived with my adoptive parents. Can you give that to me?"
The woman fell silent once again.
The burn scar revealed that, although he couldn't see it, he could sense that the woman was silently weeping beneath her veil.
A strong feeling suddenly seized his heart.
"Can you meet any other requirements?" the scarred voice said hoarsely. "If you can, I'll risk my life for you."
The woman choked up and said, "Go ahead."
The scarred man stared at the woman, as if trying to pierce two holes in her veil with his gaze.
“I want you,” he said. “Just you.”
For an entire night, two dragon-blooded guards of the Ottokan family stood ramrod straight at the door. No matter what strange noises came from inside, they remained unmoved.
As dawn broke, the newly freed Scarred Man staggered out of the prison, his legs unsteady.
On this day, a dozen or so refugees from the burning port banded together to form an inconspicuous organization called the "Dragon's Breath Gang." No one could have imagined that the lower city and the bottom city would soon be submerged in a sea of blood again because of this name.
Chapter 98 The Direction of Demonic Ascension
Ivy Beatrice sullenly pulled the "Mand of the Spellbreaker" from the corpse of the berserker. Being in the lower plane, she was completely unaware of the changes in Fire Harbor.
The berserker's corpse then turned to ashes, becoming part of the black mud underground.
This is a swamp-like lower-level world, filled with pitch-black mud. Wherever her giant serpentine body goes, the mud makes a "plop plop" sound, forming a winding snake path behind her, and countless large maggots emerge from the mud.
These maggots all had all sorts of human faces, displaying a variety of expressions of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. However, these expressions didn't seem to match their own feelings. Ivy-Beate saw more than once that maggots, crushed into pancakes by the giant snake's body, had expressions of laughter and enjoyment on their faces.
Since her conversation with Delaz in the spiritual world, Ivy-Beate has once again answered the demons' call, arriving at the Abyss and joining the war among demons for the spoils of the world.
She often thought about what Dillaz had said to her that day.
After that conversation, the demon concubine never responded to her again, as if it were all just an illusion.
But she knew it wasn't.
"Demon Ascension" and "True Name Convergence" are two concepts that Diraz mentioned to her.
The "True Name Aggregator" intimidated Ivy Beatrice. She didn't dare choose politics in her college entrance exams and skipped Marxist philosophy in university because she simply wasn't cut out for it. Now, being bombarded with philosophical questions about "who am I" felt like a deliberate attempt to embarrass her.
Fortunately, this problem doesn't seem urgent, so we can put it aside for now.
Dillaz points out that a more practical way to get rid of Demogorgon's influence is through "demon sublimation."
Demonic ascension is the process by which a demon transforms into a different form.
You, a demon, after accumulating a large amount of demon essence, also known as abyssal essence, can use this power to strengthen your own spiritual entropy, thereby giving birth to a new demon form.
This process is not static or rule-bound; there are no rules or stability in the bottomless abyss.
You can rise directly from a minor demon to a Balrog, as long as you accumulate enough demonic essence. The reshaped entropy emphasizes a powerful physique, combat, and intense flames. You can also transform from a wolf-serpent demon or a six-armed serpent demon into a succubus or a seductress.
Because your spirituality has changed, the intense desire to fight has transformed into a desire to tempt or corrupt others.
For extraordinary beings like demons, form is not important; what matters is the emphasis on spiritual entropy.
The process of a demon's spiritual transformation may be voluntary, stemming from the demon's own passions and desires; it may also be forced, with a powerful demon ordering a lower-ranking demon to transform into a tool demon for a specific purpose; but more often, it is a completely random result: when a demon's essence accumulates to a certain degree, the demon's fickle nature will drive them to pursue change in a disorderly manner.
However, spiritual entropy is constantly accumulating and increasing.
Therefore, demons always evolve from lower to higher levels, which can be considered a kind of order within disorder.
But Ivy Beatrice was not willing to undergo "devilish ascension".
As a six-armed serpent demon, she was already one of the top high-level demon races among the abyssal demons. The continued increase in spiritual entropy would likely result in her sublimation into demons like the Balrog or the wolf-serpent demon.
It's so ugly!
She felt disgusted just thinking about the enormous and ugly appearance of Balrog.
“Flashscale,” the six-armed serpent demon who summoned her greeted, “Well done.”
"Shining Scales" was the name given to Ivy Beatrice by her own kind. Because her scales were jet black, yet had a metallic or oily sheen that reflected iridescent colors. If it were Ivy Beatrice herself, she might have named it something like "Client Satisfaction."
This new kin's giant serpent body is golden, with beautiful blue ring patterns on it, and it also has blue hair and yellow skin.
Ivy Beatrice thought that the serpent pattern on each six-armed serpent demon's body might be related to some kind of trait of its own, but she couldn't guess what the reason was.
The golden-tailed kinsmen eyed the "Mand of the Slayers" in her hand with greed.
This greatsword possesses both "spell-breaking" and "holy" attributes, making it a veritable nemesis of creatures from lower planes. Just now, Ivy-Beate wielded it and killed at least a dozen six-armed serpent demons of the same level and nearly a hundred other demons; it was a case of death upon contact.
“What a fine sword,” a sly glint appeared in his kinsman’s eyes. “May I take a look?”
Ivy Beatrice ignored the question: "What about olive green?"
Jinlanwei stood there, stunned: "What did you say?"
"The six-armed serpent demon that originally summoned me had an olive-green tail."
"How the hell should I know?"
Seeing that she had no intention of handing over the sword, Jin Lanweiba's attitude became much worse. "She might be dead, she might be fighting, or she might be hiding in some corner recovering from her injuries."
She was telling the truth; these three situations are the norm for demons of the abyss.
It's a bit of a shame about Ivy Beatrice. It's very likely that she didn't get a response from her first few summons, so the olive-green one summoned someone else instead.
She asked curiously, "Then which demon lord are you fighting for?"
“I’m not doing it for anyone,” said the golden-blue tail.
She pointed her sword at two mud pits not far away. Judging from the outlines of the pits, one of the corpses was a wolf-serpent demon, and the other a six-armed serpent demon, before they disappeared. A demon's spirit and form are one; when the spirit is completely extinguished, the external form also vanishes. Except for a very few methods, it is almost impossible to preserve their corpses.
"Before those two were really dead, they started fighting. One was shouting for Okus, and the other was yelling for Demogorgon, and then it turned into two big waves of demons brawling each other. I was watching from the sidelines, but as I watched, I couldn't resist the urge to join in," said the golden-tailed demon. "Actually, this kind of fighting is the simplest. You don't need to think about who's the enemy or who's the ally. Just cut them all down. If you can't beat them, just summon a helper—no, a swordsman. And look, I summoned you."
—What you said makes so much sense, I'm speechless.
Ivy Beatrice changed the subject: "What are your thoughts on demonic sublimation?"
The golden-blue tail rolled its eyes.
Ivy Beate discovered that her eyes had yellow vertical pupils.
"I see. You've accumulated enough knowledge, but you don't want to elevate it into certain forms..."
Jinlan Tail smiled and said, "But knowledge doesn't come for free. If you're willing to trade your sword for it, I'll tell you the best path to ascension for us Six-Armed Serpent Demons."
Ivy Beatrice scoffed: "Forget it."
Her mind already contained a considerable amount of knowledge about demons, especially after absorbing the souls related to Demogorgon's "jewel" and the remnant soul of the Red Dragon Lord, which greatly expanded her knowledge base. She had only asked casually earlier.
Seeing that Ivy-Beate was unmoved by reason, Golden Blue Tail angrily canceled the summons.
After a dizzying spin, Ivy Beatrice opened her eyes on the deck of the trimaran.
She rolled over, her six jade-like arms lazily stretching out in the warm sunlight. The body of a giant, jet-black serpent, shimmering with iridescent colors, dangled from the ship's side, half of its tail submerged in the azure sea.
As they sailed further and further from Fireport, Ivy Beatrice became increasingly reluctant to disguise herself as human.
Now she appears in her original form as a six-armed serpent demon, spending her days leisurely sunbathing on the deck of the trimaran dragging behind the large ship.
Ivy Beatrice has found herself enjoying sunbathing more and more.
She revealed her six-armed serpent demon form because they were almost at Blacksail Town. She didn't want to appear in a pirate port city as the young lady of the Holy Knight of Flame Earth City.
—I must make a clean break between my image in Blacksail Town and my identity as Ivy Beate in Flame City.
However, there is still one small hidden danger.
Chasan, the one-eyed captain, had seen her in her human form.
With the red dragon's soul extinguished and the legendary Soul Pot's magic failing, the other blind sailors forgot what had happened during the time the broken scales were implanted in their eye sockets, so none of them remembered or saw the six-armed serpent demon's human form. Only the lizardman Chasan, after receiving the "Regeneration" spell and growing his first eyeball, had seen Ivy Beate's appearance.
Ivy Beatrice had no intention of killing someone to cover up such a trivial matter.
Since being reincarnated as a demon, her humanity has become increasingly indifferent, her heart increasingly hardened, murder has become commonplace for her, and her social anxiety has almost been cured as a result.
Even though she has almost fully recovered, she still tries to avoid interacting with other people.
Taking the murder to cover up the crime as an example, dealing with Chasang is simple, but then what?
If Chasan dies, then Ivy-Beate will have to take Chasan's place and deal with the hundred-plus blind sailors herself, or select and promote a new person from among the hundred-plus blind sailors to serve as the new Chasan. However, the process of re-selection will require dealing with the hundred-plus blind sailors.
Thinking about these things, Ivy Beatrice lost all thoughts of killing to cover it up.
So she transplanted an eyeball into the empty eye socket of the lizardman captain Chasan.
This eyeball originally belonged to the undead Grendel. Although Grendel was a soulless undead, the troll bloodline still endowed his body with extraordinary regenerative abilities. Within hours of the eyeball being removed, a new one regenerated in its socket.
So Ivy Beatrice used him as a super donor. She ordered Captain Chassan to have cabinets the size of two walls nailed to the bulkhead of the captain's cabin. The cabinets were filled with various bottles and jars containing all sorts of body tissues and organs of Glendale that had been preserved in magic, with the removed eyeballs making up a large portion of them.
Ivy Beatrice was certain that this would save her at least several "Regeneration" magic scrolls.
In her previous life, she had honed her medical and surgical skills to a high level. Now, as a "mortal hunter," she is incredibly precise when cutting ordinary creatures.
Chasan, the lizard man, had a very good post-operative result.
After receiving the transplanted Glendale eye, he quickly regained his sight. However, the visual field of the two different species' eyes differed slightly, so Chasan needed to close his eyes to rest whenever he kept both eyes open for more than an hour. Otherwise, he would experience dizziness and vomiting, or even numbness throughout his body and unsteadiness.
Ivy Beate predicts that this phenomenon will last for at least several more months before it disappears on its own.
Nevertheless, the sighted lizardman captain Chasan was so moved that tears welled up in his eyes, and he kept swearing allegiance.
Even so, Ivy Beatrice remained uneasy, frequently using the guise of checking and treating his eyes to cast "Charm" and "Suggestion" spells on him, and then "Mind Detection" to observe his thoughts. The only conclusion that could be drawn was that she was so intensively applying magic to the lizardman's head that she had almost turned him into a mindless fanatic.
On the deck of the trimaran, the warm sun made Ivy Beatrice drowsy.
She was still plotting "demon ascension" in her mind.
If we exclude the possibility of the six-armed serpent demon transforming into other forms, then the ways in which it can ascend are quite limited.
One approach is more conservative.
By continuously gathering demonic essence to elevate its life level, the six-armed serpent demon regenerated two more arms, evolving into an eight-armed form. This was a superior demon among the six-armed serpent demons, representing the pinnacle of its evolutionary form. It likely still has little resistance to the corruption of Demogorgon's "jewel."
The other road is much more dangerous.
In the bottomless abyss, find a certain unclaimed abyssal space, use a massive amount of demonic essence to forge a symbiotic pact with that layer of the bottomless abyss, and thus embark on the path of a demon lord.
This path has no end. As long as one gains the approval of the Abyss, there is no limit to the strength of a Demon Lord. Furthermore, with continued accumulation of power, one may even become a Demon Sovereign.
That way, one can naturally resist the corruption of the evil lord Demogorgon.
Basking in the sun, Ivy Beatrice couldn't help but wonder, is there a third way?
If Delaz wasn't lying, then she and her were originally fragments of a being that shattered its true name and body, and now the true name is about to reunite, and a being that has already died is about to be resurrected...
—And that being seems to be some kind of god?
Ivy Beatrice frowned in thought, completely unaware that she, lying on the trimaran, had actually left her dimensional bag on the luxurious bed in the captain's cabin of the three-masted sailing ship.
Meanwhile, the communication crystal ball inside the dimensional bag was flashing wildly.
At this very moment, Gloves of the Thunder Eater family, the mastermind behind the Bronco gang, and also the agent of the Six-Armed Serpent Demon, Gurulos, was doing his best to curl up his tall body and hide in the dark temple wall, not daring to breathe.
In his arms was a sparkling communication crystal ball.
Surrounded by darkness, Gurulos listened silently to the priest's muffled groans, the man's agonizing cries of despair, the sounds of necks breaking, skulls shattering, women weeping, and the sound of her throat being slit by a scythe.
Gurulos was terrified.
Since his gang leaders had been repeatedly attacked and killed, Glulos had gone into hiding. But today he had to go out, because it was supposed to be the day he went to see Lord Thunderswallower. However, upon arriving at the top city, he was told that a high-level city meeting had been suddenly convened today, and Thunderswallower was unavailable to see him.
Gurulos realized something was wrong and had no choice but to turn back. Before he could even return to the lower city, he and his men were blocked on the way by the attackers.
