The halfling leader ascended rapidly, tears streaming down his face yet chuckling, "I'll skin you alive then!"
She sneered, "Let's not."
He raised a hand, the tip of his sword pointing at the halfling, and chanted an incantation, casting the first-circle arcane spell of the mortal hunter, "Heartache."
The halfling leader, who had already climbed halfway up the mountain, suddenly shuddered.
He was drenched in cold sweat, clutching his chest, his mouth half-open, but unable to utter a sound from the pain. The sudden, excruciating pain in his chest made him almost think that his heart had been mashed into pulp by some evil spirit.
The next second, Aprilton fell off the stone wall, chain and all.
He crashed heavily to the ground, and immediately, like the gray sac beast, transformed into a large, tangled mass of dark green tentacles, struggling and rolling toward a corner.
Chapter 48 No one gets rich without unexpected wealth
As Aprilton Bronk transformed into a massive mass of dark green tentacles, his clothes, wand, equipment, and a whole bunch of odds and ends used for ambushing others clattered to the ground.
The six-armed serpent demon slowly swam forward.
She extended a longsword and used the tip to pick up Aprilton's wand, which had rolled to the ground, and examined it. This fourth-level Summon Monster wand still had at least half its magic power remaining. There were two more identical wands on the ground.
Now that the battle was over, the six-armed serpent demon found that he had a little more magic power at his disposal, enough to cast the spell of one more mortal hunter.
She has probably advanced.
It seems that in her rage just now, her subconscious act of burning experience points—no, consuming her soul—not only allowed her to master new combat skills, but also raised her mortal hunter class level.
The six-armed serpent demon discovered that he had mastered a new ability for mortal hunters: a spell-like ability called "Detect Mortals".
This ability is similar to the paladin's "detect evil" magic, except that the target of detection is not evil creatures, but all kinds of ordinary creatures.
Mortal hunters can cast this spell-like ability, "Detect Evil," anytime, anywhere, much like paladins can do, making it impossible for any mortal creature in the vicinity to escape detection. Unless the barrier is as thick as a wall, mortal creatures will find it futile to dodge this attack.
She wanted to test her new ability, so she used "Detect Mortal" on Aprilton, who had transformed into a swarm of slime tentacles.
The moment the spell-like ability was activated, the six-armed serpent demon felt as if it were in a dark, empty space. Everything around it was in black and white, as if it had stepped into an old black and white film from its previous life on Earth. But according to the magical feedback it received…
His emerald green vertical pupils stared at Aprilton Bronco with suspicion.
The aura emanating from the closest mortal being was not from the halfling in front of him.
Upon discovering that the tall, snake-bodied female demon opposite him was staring intently at him, the outline of her slowly crawling, dark green tentacles began to blur. Using this "blurring spell," Aprilton constantly changed his appearance, attempting to conceal himself.
Then she cleaved him in two without any hesitation with a single sword strike.
Under the six-armed serpent demon's all-seeing eye, no illusion can hide its true nature.
Aprilton let out a terrible scream.
He transformed from a large mass of tentacles back into his half-human form, only now missing two legs and one hand. Had he not been able to freely transfer his internal organs and viscera in his tentacled state, he would have been cut in half at the waist by that sword strike.
"Spare your life, spare your life."
Aprilton groaned, "Don't kill me, I pledge my allegiance to you, all my possessions are yours."
The six-armed serpent demon cautiously poked Aprilton's severed arm with its sword, causing Aprilton to scream in agony once more. Fluorescent green pus gushed from his wounds, covering his entire body.
“Disgusting,” she said, frowning. “What are you anyway?”
“Another world, otherworldly monsters,” Aprilton stammered, “I accept, I accept the existence of that distant land, the corruption, and I’ve become a semi-distant monster…”
The distant lands are unknown realms beyond the interstellar crystal walls, boundless and distorted, insane other-dimensional spaces.
She asked curiously, "Why?"
He looked at her with an indescribably strange gaze that sent chills down her spine.
“Why,” he repeated softly, then chuckled, a strange and sarcastic laugh.
"How long have you been in this world, Six-Armed Serpent Demon? The backlash of magic... I'm truly envious. An existence as extraordinary and immortal as you simply cannot comprehend it..."
Aprilton laughed until he was breathless, spitting out fluorescent green liquid as he gasped, "I'm telling you, do you think you can let me off the hook?"
Without a second thought, the six-armed serpent demon replied without hesitation, "No."
"Why? I'm willing to pledge my loyalty, and all my possessions will be yours..."
The fluorescent green pus had almost completely drained away. He coughed and said, "We didn't get along very well just now, but that was my way of protecting myself. You even let that dragon-blooded holy warrior go. Is it really necessary to kill me?"
She shrugged.
“Stop talking nonsense,” she said.
The halfling stared at her listlessly, rolling his eyes. Then, suddenly, he burst into a weak laugh.
“I understand,” he coughed, “You killed me because you used it, you didn’t even use it up there…”
As he said this, he stared intently at the Spellbreaker Mand in her hand, a glimmer of understanding flashing in his eyes.
"I know your secret! You are—"
Aprilton had barely formed the shape of a "beep" when the Holy Greatsword pierced his neck, severing his remaining life and words.
Beneath the silver-blue blade, the halfling twisted and deformed, transforming back into a large mass of dark green tentacles.
This time, however, all the tentacles lay limp and motionless on the ground.
The six-armed serpent demon lowered its head and gently inhaled at the mass, absorbing the soul of the half-human form that Aprilton-Brown had shed.
She sheathed the six swords and rubbed her three hands together happily: now it's time for the fun of searching for the spoils.
The halfling guards' repeating crossbows and arrows are good stuff; I'll take them.
The monster-summoning wand that rolled on the ground is also useful; I'll keep it.
She reached out and picked up a bronze amulet shaped like an eye. It was one of the items that had rolled off Aprilton when he transformed into a ball of tentacles—a mind-reading badge. Wearing it allowed her to read other people's minds.
—Maybe Aprilton used it to maintain his dominance in the Bronx?
Aprilton Bronk lived up to his reputation as a mob boss; the six-armed snake demon discovered three dimensional bags around his corpse.
This guy wasn't bragging; he really does have a demon army.
She found numerous scrolls and potions, as well as five wands, in one of his dimensional bags.
Three of these five wands are monster-summoning wands. All the wands are fully charged, meaning a full fifty spells. If each spell were used to summon a Flood, the sea of demonic vultures would be enough to flood the lower city and the bottom city.
But no one but Appleton Bronk could do that.
Only a master demon lord could wield the fourth-level Summon Monster spell with such mastery. These wands would be far less effective in the hands of the six-armed serpent demon.
There are two more wands. One is "Protection from Evil," which Demon Masters cast as a first-circle arcane spell. The other is "Powerful Curse," a fourth-circle arcane spell for Demon Masters. Wands can only store spells of level four or lower, and only Demon Masters can craft the "Powerful Curse" wand. The level of spell cast varies between classes; if a Priest or Wizard were to cast it, the spell would be far higher than that level.
Besides these items, she also found several magic books and a large roll of blank, old parchment.
One book is "The Guide to Making a Flesh Golem," which almost provides step-by-step instructions on how to create a flesh golem. The other is surprisingly a book on advanced meditation, a valuable resource that can enhance a reader's memory and logical thinking skills.
Both books were stored in two separate boxes specially made by the halflings. The six-armed serpent demon noticed that each box had a date and location written on it, but he didn't know what they meant.
The dimensional bag also contains all sorts of poisons.
One of the Demon Master's professional abilities is poison immunity, but this is an ability he learned by constantly interacting with demons—poisons are ineffective against all demons, so Aprilton never even considered using them to deal with her.
There are two remaining dimensional bags, one of which contains items belonging to the Bronco gang leader.
The six-armed serpent demon found many keys, a large stack of property deeds and certificates, and a black leather notebook in the bag. The notebook contained numerous names and numbers, resembling a ledger used for bribery or debt collection.
As for the last dimensional bag, when you open it, it's filled to the brim with money.
Piles of gold coins, large chunks of uncut gemstones, and countless exquisite jewelry pieces.
The six-armed serpent demon gently pulled out a pearl necklace from the pile of colorful jewelry.
Although wealth no longer held any appeal for her after her rebirth as a demon, the beauty of the pearl necklace still dazzled her.
Each pearl on the necklace is a nearly transparent pale blue, but when you turn it slightly, you can see it gradually turn into an opaque gold and a shimmering, flowing crimson.
This is a three-element pearl, produced by a type of extra-large mollusk in the nearby waters.
Because the Dawn Titans control the elements, the oceans of the Abel world have long interacted with the energies of the three elements: water, fire, and earth. These mollusks have also been influenced by these three energies, causing the nacre they secrete to undergo strange changes, resulting in pearls that display such mesmerizing and magnificent colors.
These pearls are priceless because they are not only beautiful; it is said that wearing them for a long time can increase one's affinity for and resistance to elements.
The pearls on this necklace are all full, round, and almost identical in size. They are clearly the finest of the three types of pearls.
The six-armed serpent demon discovered that there were still traces of blood in the holes where the pearls were threaded and on the string of the necklace.
It seems that Aprilton Bronk has gone to great lengths, including murder and robbery, to obtain the treasures in this dimensional bag, including the pearl necklace.
The six-armed serpent demon, in the spirit of "no man can get rich without windfall, and no horse can get fat without night grass," gladly accepted all of Aprilton's inheritance.
She put away her dimensional bag, glanced at the limp mass of dark green tentacles on the ground, and silently thanked the former Bronco gang leader for his selfless gift.
Curious, she swam up the stone wall and followed the route Aprilton had taken to escape using chains, arriving at a square passageway above the wall. She peered into the passageway for a while; it extended a short distance before turning a corner.
But standing at the entrance of the passage, she sensed a faint, scorching heat emanating from it. It seemed that far, far away behind the stone wall, something enormous was breathing evenly.
She wanted to squeeze through to take a look, but the opening of the square passage was too narrow; her six-armed shoulders couldn't fit through.
Perhaps we could use our "mortal body" to transform into a half-human and go inside for a look?
She thought about it and then gave up the idea.
The "mortal form" can only be transformed once a day. Tonight's trip has already taken too long; it's past midnight now. If I use the "mortal form" to become a halfling now, I won't be able to transform back into Ivy Beatrice to go to work during the day.
Now that her demonic body is gradually recovering, she has awakened the ability of "Advanced Teleportation." She can explore the stone chamber whenever she wants, but she must not let small things cause greater harm and affect Ivy-Beate's identity.
The six-armed serpent demon reluctantly swam down the stone wall and returned to the stone platform.
Now there's only one last thing left.
Just now, she used the dying Aprilton-Brown to test "detecting mortals," but the mortal aura she detected was not Aprilton's, but rather below the stone platform.
She examined the ground carefully.
They discovered a "stone slab" on the ground that was different in color from the other stone slabs. When they reached out and touched it, they realized it was a wooden flap disguised as a stone.
He pulled back the wooden flap and looked down to take a look.
The six-armed snake demon raised its beautiful eyebrows.
Beneath the wooden flap, a wooden ladder was supported. At the bottom of the ladder was a dark, gloomy cellar.
The white-haired old accountant, Tevodo, raised his old face from the cellar below, his eyes meeting hers in terror.
"Oh ho, what's that saying again?"
The six-armed snake demon sighed, "It's true what they say, you never know where you'll meet someone in life."
Chapter 49 The Interlude of Slaughter
The morning light streamed through the window of the dockside office, gently illuminating the head of the imposter Ivy Beatrice. The light and shadow outlined her soft, beautiful profile, making her hair appear as if it were ablaze with flames.
The newly reported clerk/accountant leaned back behind his desk, propping his cheek with one hand and idly twirling a pen in his right.
Her beautiful appearance and elegant demeanor captivated all the young men in the dock patrol team under the port authority.
She frowned slightly, her emerald eyes coldly and blankly staring at the mountain of documents and reports on the table. Her eyes seemed to be veiled by a layer of mist, carrying a faint sadness and sorrow.
She pondered her thoughts quietly and sighed softly.
The fragrance of her breath and the delicate, ethereal sighs made them feel as if their hearts were about to break.
If they could hear her true feelings, they would surely be overwhelmed with shattered pieces of her eyes.
—Damn, so many accounts and reports! Just looking at them is making my stomach hurt…
She cried out in anguish and deep regret in her heart.
—I shouldn't have rushed to kill that old bastard. I should have locked him up in that cellar first and made him work as an accountant for me every week until he died…
Just then, someone next to him said something.
She snapped out of her daze: "Sorry, what did you just say?"
"As I just said, a lot of people died in the lower town last night."
The man said mysteriously, "Someone summoned a demon at that famous Dragon Horn Tavern. The tavern was awash in blood; twenty or thirty corpses were carried out, and several members of the city guard died."
The man had a shifty, weasel-like face, and his eyes were always secretly glancing at her, darting around. She recognized him as the deputy captain of the picket line—the captain of the picket line was personally held by the port master, Burktura—his name was… she couldn't remember, just some random passerby.
Everyone in the office looked at him, their faces showing genuine surprise and a thirst for gossip.
She tried to feign a shocked expression: "Really? Where did you hear that?"
The vice-captain became even more smug: "Of course it's true, I was there at the time."
No, you're not here.
