Chapter 502 Darkrai and Darkrai
Chapter 502 Darkrai and Darkrai
The melodious voice wasn't loud, but it possessed a peculiar penetrating power, instantly drowning out the noisy chatter in the hall.
All eyes turned to the source of the sound.
A trainer dressed in a red coat, with messy, dark blue hair and a calm expression, was standing not far behind them.
His demeanor was out of place among the excited or nervous trainers around him, carrying a detached calm.
He looked at the questioning gazes from the crowd and gave a polite but distant smile.
“It seems my name isn’t very well-known here.” He spoke slowly, his voice still calm. “Please allow me to introduce myself first. My name is Dakdo.”
"Darkdo?!" Although the trainer's appearance was completely unfamiliar, the name was definitely not unfamiliar to the many contestants. Ashun's voice suddenly rose several octaves after hearing the name.
His eyes widened as he pointed at Dakdo, looking utterly incredulous.
"Could you be the one... the one who captured Darkrai and swept through the eight gyms with just one Darkrai?!"
Ashun's voice caused a small commotion in the hall, and many trainers who hadn't noticed this before turned their heads to look.
Rumors about Darko are circulating widely among trainers who will be participating in the Lily of the Valley Tournament, but most of them are vague.
Kaoping pushed up his glasses, his gaze behind the lenses sharpening.
"So that's how it is. The rumors were true after all... You're the mysterious trainer who never appears in public and even refuses to be recorded during gym battles."
Koping recalled some rumors he had heard in the past and said in a mocking tone, "Because the rumors about you are too mysterious, even after the news of Ash catching Darkrai spread, many people speculated that the legendary Darkrai was actually Ash. Although I thought you should exist from the beginning, it seems a bit inappropriate for a trainer who is going to appear in the Lily of the Valley Tournament to act so timidly."
Dakdo maintained his nonchalant smile, shrugged slightly, and seemed unconcerned about the discussions.
He simply turned his gaze to Shinji, whose face was still pale, and continued the topic that Ash and the others had been discussing.
"Shinji saw my companion in the backyard and challenged me without saying a word."
His tone was flat, as if he were stating a trivial matter.
As Dakdo finished speaking, the shadow beneath his feet suddenly twisted unnaturally.
A pitch-black figure slowly emerged and solidified from the shadows like ink, eventually transforming into Darkrai with cold eyes and an ominous aura.
Darkrai hovered silently beside Darkrai, its invisible pressure making the surrounding air seem heavier.
The once noisy hall instantly fell silent.
Legend has it that the unique sense of oppression emanating from Pokémon fills everyone's heart.
The moment they saw Darkrai, most of the trainers in the hall realized that it was an existence they could never match.
On the other side, Shinji did not refute Darko's words after hearing them; he simply closed his eyes, which was considered an admission of Darko's statement.
The resentment and heaviness emanating from him became even more pronounced.
Koping immediately seized the opportunity, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Shinji and Darkrai, trying to glean useful information from them.
"It's a real shame I wasn't there to witness Shinji's battle against the legendary Pokémon. If I could, I would love to know the details, but..."
Before Kaoping could finish his question, Dakdo smiled and took over the conversation.
He knew that Shinji was the dark horse for this year's championship, and he also knew that Koupin wanted to find out some information about Darkrai from his battle with Shinji, but he obviously didn't care about these things.
"Shinji's Torterra is very powerful and has been exceptionally well-trained." He first affirmed this, then changed the subject, "but unfortunately, it was defeated before it could inflict any effective damage on my Darkrai."
Dacto's tone remained calm, as if similar scenes could be repeated countless times and only lead to the same ending.
Shinji, who had been keeping his eyes closed, suddenly opened them, a fierce glint flashing deep within them, his hands unconsciously clenching into fists at his sides.
The knuckles turned slightly white from the force applied.
"Hmph," Shinji snorted coldly, meeting Darko's gaze with undisguised hostility in his tone.
"This is my first time fighting Darkrai."
"Once I figure out its fighting style, next time... next time I face your Darkrai, I'm sure I can beat it."
Shinji's words were resolute and full of his unique arrogance.
Of all the declarations of war Shinji has made on his journey so far, only his challenges to Ash have all failed.
As for the method to conquer Darkrai.
He wasn't entirely unable to think of it, but—
After hearing this, Dakdo's smile remained unchanged, but there seemed to be a hint of amusement in it.
He tilted his head slightly and asked, "Oh? The so-called defeating it..."
Does it mean you won't lose in a one-on-one situation, or you won't lose in a six-on-one situation?
"?!"
Shinji's breath hitched, and his clenched fist seemed to tighten even more.
Dacto’s casual remark precisely struck at his greatest embarrassment at that moment.
Conquering Darkrai is not an impossible task, but the price to pay is...
He didn't answer again, but silently accepted his Pokédex and contestant certificate from Nurse Joy.
He gave Ash a deep look, then glanced at Darkrai and Darkrai beside him, and finally, without saying a word, turned around, pushed through the crowd, and left the Pokémon Center alone.
Watching Shinji's departing figure, Asuka opened her mouth as if to say something, but ultimately couldn't utter a sound.
Kaoping remained silent, adjusting his glasses as if processing the information he had just received.
Ash didn't say a word from beginning to end; he just silently watched everything happen.
He watched Shinji leave unwillingly, saw the absolute confidence beneath Darkrai's calm surface, and felt the powerful aura emanating from Darkrai.
Although Ash hasn't expressed any opinion yet, his inner world is definitely not as calm as it appears.
He understood Shinji's thoughts and was even more aware that Darko's remarks were not a provocation, but rather a statement of an unchangeable fact.
