Chapter 52 Smart People
Chapter 52 Smart People
Upon hearing this, Hahn turned around, looking at Vivian with a surprised expression.
"Isn't this the result you wanted?" Vivian looked at him with disdain and said, "I've always been curious why you have such a big problem with me."
"If it were just a trivial matter, you shouldn't have such a big problem with it. After all, this is perfectly normal for nobles."
"As for the arrival of Eileen and the other two, I didn't think much of it at the time. I just assumed they were your means of countering me."
"It wasn't until tonight that I understood why. You should have always known my identity. You brought them into the Sheffield family not just to oppose me, but to replace me when necessary."
"As Eileen just said, she got the letter from you. Even if she encountered Freya while delivering the letter and Freya instigated her, Eileen shouldn't have bothered the two of us so casually."
Moreover, I am well aware of the instigator's abilities; it can only incite the evil desires deep within a person's heart. Eileen's behavior does not seem to be an act of instigation leading to an outburst of evil desires.
"If you hadn't been so eager to attack this time, I might have actually fallen into your trap. But I must commend you on your excellent plan."
Hahn smiled and said, "But my plan succeeded, didn't it?"
Vivian asked curiously, "Didn't Rafe alter your memories back then?"
Hahn nodded, then shook his head, and said, "At the time, Count Rafe didn't choose to alter my memories; he only added some memories from the original plan. For example: Young Master Lucius becoming Count Altair, the witch's seduction, and so on."
"Perhaps it was because I added the memories too hastily at the time, or perhaps it was because of that vase of young master Lucius. As a result, my memories were in complete disarray at the time, and it took me nearly a month to slowly sort them out."
Vivian looked at Hahn with a puzzled expression and said, "According to you, that means I've been the one being schemed against ever since I entered this manor."
"That's right." Hahn didn't try to hide the truth, stating directly, "After you came in, we began evaluating you. If you had acted dangerously, we would have prioritized eliminating you."
"As for why you are still alive, it's mainly because you're not a threat enough and you can still teach Count Altair, so you've been kept alive."
"I just didn't expect you two to fall in love so quickly, it disrupted a lot of plans."
"So Rafe Strauss wasn't influenced by me back then? He sensed my presence from the beginning and set up a series of traps according to my plan." Vivian shook her head, smiled bitterly, and pressed on:
"How did you scheme against them? I remember you were just a 'lawyer'."
Instead of answering the question, Hahn silently took off the 'golden pocket watch' hanging from his chest, opened the cover and closed it again.
This seemingly ordinary action might not seem unusual to the average person, but from Vivian's perspective, one would see a great deal of spirituality emerging with each opening and closing of the pocket watch.
A few seconds later, she realized that she should have something to do, but she couldn't remember what it was, and her mood gradually became depressed.
Once the anomalies subsided, Vivian asked in surprise, "Wasn't he only capable of simple memory manipulation?"
Hahn took back his pocket watch and explained:
"It does have the ability to modify memories, but that doesn't mean it can only modify memories. Before it was completely sealed, using other abilities came at a great cost, so I never used them easily. Fortunately, Count Rafe completed the sealing process some time ago, otherwise I wouldn't dare to use it."
Vivian rubbed her temples and asked Hahn, "So you used this 'sealing artifact' to hypnotize them and help you complete your mission?"
"That's correct reasoning, but not entirely correct," Hahn explained. "At the very least, Freya did have ambitions to rise to power, and I merely triggered her mind through the sealing artifact—or, as you witches would say, instigated her."
"As for Eileen, you know about her background. For people like her, there is only one rule of survival: to have value, otherwise they will be easily abandoned."
"Then let's get back to the topic. Although you and Earl Altair have a good relationship, the bloodline of the Sheffield family should not be broken. That's the bottom line."
Vivian nodded slightly, then asked疑惑地问道, "Why won't you let me have a child with him?"
Hahn looked bewildered, then gave Vivian the look of someone looking at an idiot, and said, "Middle sequence has a probability of naturally inheriting a small number of traits, you should know that. Unless you become a high sequence, you can't completely control this 'inheritance'."
"But the probability of it becoming a high sequence is slim, and it's not very realistic."
Feeling offended, Vivian immediately retorted, "How do you know Altair wants a child right now? What if it's just wishful thinking on your part? Besides, isn't the assassin's path better?"
Vivian's words made Hahn not want to reply, and he was about to turn and leave, but after thinking about it, he stopped and explained:
"When the next generation of heirs will have children is Count Altair's choice; it can be now or in the future."
"But you should know that Count Rafe will not allow Count Altair to exist forever. Lucius is his real name, and he will eventually return, which means he must eliminate the 'Assassin' pathway characteristics."
"If you agree, you can take Freya away. If you don't agree, please don't do anything strange."
"When you punish someone, please remember the dignity of the Sheffield family. As for why you punished Freya, you'll have to explain that to Earl Altair yourself."
"I need you to inform me of the punishment result in advance. I will see if we need to find a new housekeeper based on the outcome of your handling."
"The most important thing is that you must not tell Count Altair about our deal."
After speaking, Hahn left the living room. For him, his task was complete. The rest was Altair's private matter.
Both men achieved their goals through the transaction. Meanwhile, Altair was writing a letter, not only to reply to Count Hall, but also to find someone to accompany him on his journey.
If it's a small, private banquet, a meal, or tea, Altair can go by himself.
However, he is still too young for such large-scale banquets, so he needs to be accompanied by an elder. He will need to undergo a 'social coming-of-age ceremony' before he can officially attend banquets on his own.
Generally, the accompanying person only needs to be selected as a mother, female companion, or tutor. But unfortunately, Altair doesn't have any of these identities.
All I can do is write more letters and send them to my former teachers to see if there's anyone who can take my place.
