Chapter 85 Roy King
Chapter 85 Roy King
After the party, Lorne left satisfied.
Behind him, the man who sold the potions was observing him from the shadows in the distance.
"They don't seem like people from the Aurora Club."
"A wild 'monster'?" the man muttered to himself, lightly touching his chin with his finger. "That's rare."
"And his fate is somewhat..."
"How strange..."
After a moment's thought, the man quietly followed.
……
After the gathering ended, Lorne stepped out of the house, the cool evening breeze brushing against his face. He pulled up the hood of his cloak, preparing to head to the meeting place he had arranged with Danitz.
"Someone's here?" Lorne sensed that someone was following him.
His right hand swiftly reached into his robes and gripped the gun handle. Lorne whirled around and saw a blurry figure standing in the shadows at the alley entrance.
"Are you the one who sold potions earlier?" Lorne barely recognized the person by their figure.
More perceptive than I imagined, very talented... The man secretly admired her.
He removed his mask, revealing a rather young man beneath the cloak. He then took out a pair of glasses from his pocket and put them on, his hair neatly combed back, making him appear even more refined.
"That's right." The man nodded in agreement.
"What's wrong? Does the potion have after-sales service?" Lorne was slightly puzzled, wondering why the other party would contact him.
Could they be plotting something? That shouldn't be the case. Quite a few people bought potions just now; there's no reason for them to target me.
Or did my earlier attempt to purchase a Sequence 7 potion attract their covetousness?
However, since my spiritual intuition did not give any warning, it means that the other party probably did not have much ill intentions.
Nevertheless, Lorne remained highly vigilant, ready to draw his gun and fire at any moment.
Anyone who can sell extraordinary potions is most likely an extraordinary being themselves. Moreover, the fact that they could approach me so easily suggests that their rank is likely above mine.
Sensing Lorne's wariness, the man chuckled softly:
"Don't be nervous, I mean you no harm."
"That's what bad people say..." Lorne muttered to himself, but outwardly remained calm as he asked, "So, what do you want with me?"
"You want the potion recipe for Sequence 7 of the 'Monster' pathway?" The man did not answer Lorne's question.
Lorne frowned slightly, but still answered truthfully, "That's true. Do you perhaps have one?"
"Yes, I do have it," the man readily admitted.
"Just here to sell?" Lorne wondered to himself, trying to figure out the other party's true purpose.
Lorne narrowed his eyes: "Why didn't you say so at the party?"
Lorne disliked private deals, which reminded him of some scams he had used before his time travel.
Having a platform at least provides some protection, even if it's not always effective, it's still a comfort. But if you're scammed in a private transaction, you have nowhere to seek justice.
"Some transactions require a more...private environment." The man took a step forward, and Lorne immediately stepped back.
"Is the formula for your own use?" the man suddenly asked.
This question instantly put Lorne on his guard: "This has nothing to do with you."
"Hmm..." The man nodded thoughtfully. "That makes sense."
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Roy King, and I am also an Extraordinary being of the 'Monster' pathway."
"A scammer, right...?" That was Lorne's first thought.
While it's uncertain what abilities the "Monster" pathway will grant in later sequences, it likely won't include the ability to create potions...
Not to mention aphrodisiacs...
"I didn't make those potions, uh, I was just a middleman." Roy King explained with a smile, seemingly sensing Lorne's thoughts.
"So, Mr. Jin, what exactly is your purpose in contacting me? Is it just to sell the formula?"
"No." Roy King gently shook his head.
"I just want to offer help. I can see your talent, and if you'd like, I can take you on as a student."
"what?"
Asking to take on students on the very first meeting? That's really strange.
Why do I get this feeling that I see you have extraordinary talent and are destined for greatness, so I'm taking you on as my apprentice?
Shouldn't that kind of thing be done by an old man? This guy is probably only in his thirties at most... His refined appearance doesn't seem like one of those swindlers.
"Why? We've only just met," Lorne asked bluntly.
"First of all, you don't seem to have been in the extraordinary realm for very long, and you don't seem to have a teacher."
"The fact that you can maintain such a good condition on your own shows that you are very talented."
Really? I didn't even know myself... Lorne didn't speak, waiting for the other person to continue.
"And you don't seem like a bad person." Roy King sized up Lorne, his expression suggesting that he was always right about people.
"As for the other reasons..." Roy King paused for a few seconds and said in a charlatan-like tone, "Let's just say it's fate."
Fate? It's all arranged!
Fate might not mean much, but the moment Lorne heard the word "arrangement," he immediately recalled his experiences in Tingen. A chill ran down his spine involuntarily.
Could it be that voyeuristic entity has come after me again...?
"What's wrong?" Roy King asked, noticing Lorne's sudden change in demeanor.
"It's nothing," Lorne quickly composed himself.
Roy King then briefly introduced himself and hinted that he had an organization behind him.
After hearing his words, Lorne fell silent.
The other person doesn't seem to be a bad person...
He originally went to sea to look for opportunities, but now that an opportunity has actually come to him, it's impossible for him not to be tempted. If what the other party said is true, not only will he have a place to get his magic potions, but he will also gain a powerful backer.
But... Lorne knew that there's no such thing as a free lunch.
"I need a few days to think about it," Lorne said, not immediately agreeing.
"Being cautious is a good habit." Roy King nodded, showing no sign of dissatisfaction.
"This is my address. You can come find me here once you've thought it through." Roy King handed Lorne a business card.
"Okay." Lorne reached out and took it.
Before leaving, Roy King turned around and added, "By the way, I can tell you that the Sequence 7 of the 'Monster' pathway is called 'Lucky One'."
"Also, your pet is very nice."
"Laki was found in the bag?" Lorne was a little surprised, but after a moment he was relieved.
This is a show of strength, meant to prevent me from having any bad thoughts.
Telling me the name of the potion is a sign of sincerity, right? But "Lucky Guy"? It doesn't sound very intimidating... Lorne frowned slightly upon hearing the name of the potion.
Surely he won't have any powerful extraordinary abilities even at Sequence 7...
……
After parting ways with Roy King, Lorne wandered around alone for a while.
As for whether or not to become the other's student, Lorne planned to listen to Danitz's advice. He had spent more time at sea and was far more experienced than he was.
Someone else? As Lorne approached the place he had arranged to meet Danitz, his spiritual intuition was once again triggered.
Unlike before, this time it carried a very obvious malicious intent.
"Meow!"
"Laki, did you sense it?" The cat in the bag seemed to have detected the danger and meowed warily.
"Don't be afraid." Lorne gently patted the bag, both to soothe and to calm the orange cat's restlessness.
"The enemy is in the shadows, we are in the light, don't act rashly..."
"For spiritual intuition to react so strongly, there must be more than one person tracking me, and they must be extraordinary individuals."
Damn it, who is it? Lorne quickened his pace without making a sound, while pondering the identity of the person who came.
Roy King?
No, if he wanted to harm me, he wouldn't have waited until now.
Were those people from the party just now?
No, it doesn't seem like it either...
"Could it be... damn it!" Lorne thought of something and cursed under his breath.
In his view, there are only two possibilities now.
One possibility is that he misjudged Danitz, who was not as simple-minded as he appeared. In reality, Danitz was a cunning and scheming person who had always been friendly to him on the surface but harbored resentment. This was a trap he had set.
The second possibility is that the three pirates' companions whom Danitz killed earlier have come seeking revenge.
But in either case, the situation is not good.
"Sigh, time travelers are destined for misfortune," Lorne sighed inwardly.
