Chapter 538 Strange's Whereabouts
"I'm not entirely sure if it's safe for you to come. Have you resolved the tracking issues?"
At the entrance to the Sanctum Sanctum, Peter greeted Logan and Cindy. Logan glanced at Peter, who was wearing the anti-Venom suit, but didn't say anything. He just looked at the Sanctum Sanctum next to him and said, "Don't worry, Hank (Beast) will handle the mechanical aspects. As for the human surveillance, Charles will take care of that."
To be honest, Peter didn't know how Kahn managed to do this, somehow managing to resurrect the professor. Although, according to Logan, the professor's undead had been kept in the academy, the idea of him being resurrected like this was still rather abstract.
Peter didn't know what to say, but he simply opened the door—he had studied magic at the Sanctuary, so he could open the door directly.
"I'm not entirely sure if Strange remembers me," Peter said, opening the door before closing his mouth and looking at the dark Sanctum Sanctum. "I'm not even sure if Strange is still in the Sanctum Sanctum, or if the King is still here."
The Sanctuary was completely dark and dilapidated. If Strange had something to do or was gone for some reason, that would be understandable. But why had all the Kamar-Taj NPCs, such as the King, disappeared?
Logan sniffed carefully, then frowned.
"I smell it—the smell of sulfur."
"Sulfur?" Peter asked uncertainly. "Is it the smell of Velasco and Limbo?"
Peter asked this question because Velasco and Kang were undoubtedly connected, and Velasco had also modified the Sandman using unknown methods. So, coupled with the sulfurous smell unique to Hell and the fact that Iliana disappeared with the X-Men, he thought of this guy.
But Logan shook his head, then said uncertainly, "It shouldn't be. The smells are different on both sides, and it's not quite the same as the sulfur smell on Kurt (Nightcrawler) either—."
Peter frowned, ignoring the matter of the Holy Sanctuary for the time being. Instead, he led the two men to the gate connecting the three Holy Sanctuaries, opened the gate to Kamar-Taj, went inside, and looked at Kamar-Taj—everything seemed normal.
A fully armed king emerged with a group of Kamar-Taj followers. He paused for a moment upon seeing Spider-Man and his crew, then ordered his men to put away their weapons before approaching: "Spider-Man?"
"Uh, wait, you remember me?"
"No, I didn't remember you a few minutes ago, but I know what you did. You made the whole world forget that you're smart, but the more you show up, the weaker the effect will become."
After speaking solemnly with Peter, Wang looked at the New York Sanctuary and said, "It seems there are no problems in New York. I'll arrange for my disciples to clean it up immediately."
"What's wrong with New York?"
"Cosmic Cube, you ask a question you already know the answer to. The Sanctuary cannot protect us from the power of the Cosmic Cube. We have no choice but to gather all our disciples in Kamar-Taj and rely on its ancient protection to avoid losing manpower. Since you have come, it means that things are almost stable."
That's why the New York Sanctum Sanctum was empty—Peter nodded, then asked, "What about Strange?"
Now the king looked at Peter with an even stranger expression.
"He's trapped outside the universe."
"what?"
"I said, he's trapped outside the universe. Didn't you create a huge reality rift in Paris and then you were in charge of repairing it? Although the repair is complete, it's still quite fragile. Strange went outside reality to stop those monsters and demons, and as a result, he got trapped outside while the Cosmic Cube was modifying reality."
Peter scratched his head, remembering Mrs. Spider's words: don't try to escape the Cosmic Cube to other universes, or you'll be unable to return. It seemed that this effect had worked on Strange. He sighed helplessly, then said, "Wait a minute," and activated his ability, tearing a rift in reality within Kamar-Taj. The next second, a disheveled Strange finally returned to Earth 616.
"Next time, remember to let me check the news before I leave. If I had known the Avengers couldn't handle Kang, I wouldn't have gone out."
Strange shook his head helplessly, then looked at Peter: "Well done, Spider-Man. I thought Kang would just erase you directly. Looks like you've found a way to avoid reality and be wiped out."
"Yeah, it took about half a month for Cindy to help me remember." Peter said, then remembered something: "Oh right, when we came in just now, Logan said there was a sulfurous smell in the New York Sanctum that didn't belong to Limbo."
The next second, both Strange and Wang Du's expressions changed drastically. They then used their slingshots to open a portal and entered the New York Sanctum Sanctorum. The three people who saw this were confused and quickly followed. Strange snapped his fingers to restore the lighting to the Sanctum Sanctorum and then quickly checked the situation of the Sanctum Sanctorum.
"All the magical artifacts have been stored in Kamar-Taj; this place should be empty," the king cautioned. "If an intruder is looking for something, he won't find anything."
"They may not be here to look for something, Your Majesty. They may be here to leave something behind."
Strange stopped inside a picture frame. The original contents of the frame had long been stored away in Kamar-Taj, but now there was a portrait inside: a handsome white man who seemed to be gazing at everyone present.
Peter didn't recognize the person, but that didn't stop his spider-sense from working powerfully. He couldn't yet see anything about this person through his precognitive abilities, so he curiously asked Strange, "Who is this person?"
"An incredibly terrifying presence. We didn't stop everyone from coming in through the rift you opened in Paris, and he came in."
Texas, a tavern.
Kang the Conqueror conquered the world overnight and changed the fate of many people, but there were some who, although important, were outside the world and therefore Kang did not change their fate.
For example, Johnny Blazer, or as he's also known, Ghost Rider.
He was sitting at the bar drinking when a man walked up to him and ordered a whiskey.
"I still prefer casinos, Johnny. People are willing to gamble everything there, even their souls, as long as the reward is good enough."
The man looked at Johnny Blazer and smiled with satisfaction.
"We've finally met. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am your long and friendly friend, Mephisto."
"Do you remember our deal? In the darkness, you would serve as my messenger, traversing the earth. Now, your employer has come to assign you your tasks."
