Chapter 140 The Dog Friend's New Goal
Chapter 140 The Dog Friend's New Goal
Leila didn't know how other people's summer vacations were going, but she felt that her wonderful summer vacation had been interrupted.
She certainly had a great time in Switzerland, and even met a senior boy studying at Beauxbatons. Compared to the boys at Hogwarts, the French wizard was definitely more romantic and charming than the British wizard.
The two had originally planned to travel to the Netherlands together, but the editor sent her seven urgent emails urging her to return to China.
Leila had to say goodbye to her trip and her new handsome travel companion, and flew back to England.
She checked back into the same Muggle hotel as last year—it was very close to her friend's manor.
For Leila, ending her trip early wasn't so pleasant. But for Swallowtail, it was overjoyed to see its Samoyed friend sooner.
Of course, the reunion date between the two fluffy creatures will have to wait until after Lyra's meeting with the editor.
"I don't want to do another autograph session!" Leila shook her head like a rattle-drum. "It's too tiring. Last time, not only were my hands almost broken, but my neck, my back, my legs, my butt, and my feet were also incredibly tired!"
No matter how the editor tried to coax or entice her, after last year's highly popular and successful but also very arduous autograph session, Leila firmly refused to do it again this year.
Left with no other option, the editor had to back down.
"Hold a book launch event?" Leila hesitated. "The author doesn't need to sign books at the bookstore; I can just sign a portion of the books beforehand, and the bookstore can handle the sales?"
No one else needs to appear; she just needs to sign a portion of the books beforehand.
It sounded much better than a signing event, so Leila finally agreed.
"Shift!"
After seeing the massive number of books the editor sent, Lyra belatedly realized she had been tricked.
This editor must be a Slytherin graduate!
The other three houses weren't nearly as cunning. Gryffindor preferred a straightforward approach, Hufflepuff was particularly easygoing, and Ravenclaw... well, Ravenclaws were all intelligent, but they certainly wouldn't try to trick a poor, weak, and helpless girl!
Lyra was signing her novel in her hotel room until her hands were almost broken. She wished her owl and swallowtail dog could grow human hands to sign for her!
Even if she can secretly use the second wand her friend gave her to cast a copying spell on the novel, wouldn't waving the wand tire her wrist?!
No, it's really no good. Leila even felt like there were two versions of herself in the room.
why?
Of course, it's because she was so tired she split herself in two—from one Lyra, she split herself into two Lyra.
Laila wailed again and collapsed onto the bed, burying her face in the swallowtail dog's fluffy belly, trying to regain her energy by sucking on its fur.
She had almost sucked all the fur off her two little owls, and the swallowtail dog had nowhere to escape, but the owl cleverly escaped. One morning, when the hotel room window wasn't closed properly, the long-eared owl spread its wings and flew away without looking back—completely ignoring its owner's affectionate calls.
So when Lyra heard the familiar cooing sound of the long-eared owl, she looked up in surprise and found that there was a good reason why her owl had flown away—it was actually working!
The long-eared owl brought back a letter from a dog-loving friend, asking when she would be free so that the two puppies could meet.
Lyra was about to write down her grievances about being tricked into giving her a huge number of signatures by her editor when a sudden idea struck her—her friend was an all-powerful pure-blooded noble native wizard!
Didn't we help her solve the problem of underage wizards not being allowed to use magic outside of school last year?
This year, I'm sure I can help her successfully resolve the problem of needing a massive amount of signatures!
Leila happily came to an important conclusion: when in trouble, turn to your dog friends.
*
Don't be afraid when you encounter difficulties; as long as you find the right solution, you'll be fine.
Leila watched with delight as a golden automatic quill pen diligently signed the covers of each novel.
No wonder you're a dog lover!
In a second, she was freed from heavy labor, all she needed was an automatic signature quill pen!
"All expenses for today are on me!" Leila declared generously.
Theodore Nott sat lazily on the sofa next to Lyra, unmoved by the excitement and generosity of his Gryffindor friend, who had no common sense about magical life.
"A true wizard..."
"—There are countless ways to achieve his goal, instead of just foolishly worrying," Lyra picked up the conversation skillfully. "I know, I'll remember to use wizarding methods to solve problems next time."
"To repay your great kindness, I've decided to take you and Laputa to a fun place—"
Lyra took her dog-loving friend and his dog to a Muggle convention center where a dog show was being held.
This is the news Leila heard from the hotel reception.
Every three years, the Muggles in this small town host a dog show featuring dozens of popular canine sports.
For example, in a free dance competition, dogs and their owners perform various movements to music, which is highly free and fun. The dogs need to complete certain necessary movements in the dance, such as twisting, turning, weaving between the owner's legs, jumping backwards, etc.
Bell and Laputa both love music, and although they've never danced before, they both move around happily.
Diving contest: The owner throws a toy from the shore and the dog jumps as far as possible across the water.
Bell wasn't interested in diving, but Laputa enthusiastically directed his owner to keep throwing toys into the water, and then leaped into the pool right in front of his owner, soaking him completely.
Leila stood by, gloating, laughing until her ribs ached.
Belle's favorite activity is tracking games, where she guides her dog to follow her owner's footsteps by scent. For Belle, this game is the simplest and most enjoyable game of hide-and-seek.
Leila was dragged around by the swallowtail dog again and again, and it was hard to tell whether she was walking the dog or the dog was walking her.
Theodore Nott raised his eyebrows in response, a jab at Lyra for her earlier mockery of his disheveled appearance.
In addition, they also participated in herding competitions, simulated hunting competitions, and slingshot competitions.
The Flying Ball Race is a team competition for dogs. Laputa and Belle, along with two other Muggle dogs, temporarily formed a team to compete in a relay race to catch flying balls, while also navigating various obstacles.
The competition got Leila and Theodore excited too. They completely disregarded manners and restraint, clapping and cheering for their dog until their voices were swollen.
The dog ultimately won second place in the team competition.
Leila and Theodore were extremely proud!
The dog lover tried to remain calm and told Lyra that he planned to hold a magical dog competition in the future.
Leila reasonably suspects that he did this to make up for Laputa's disappointment at not winning the championship.
