Chapter 115 Theodore Nott, a Master of Guidance

Chapter 115 Theodore Nott, a Master of Guidance

Lyra immediately stepped back, giving the space to Harry.

Professor Lupin looked at Harry with an encouraging gaze, which made Harry, who wasn't ready, step forward with a stiff upper lip.

"Try to recall happy things, Harry," Professor Lupin reminded him.

Harry looked like a middle-aged man suffering from constipation, and Lyra could tell he was racking his brains for happy memories.

"Call upon God... no, protector... no, no, I'm sorry, it's call upon God to protect, call upon God to protect!"

Harry was a little nervous at first, but after a few tries he finally managed to recite the spell. Suddenly, a wisp of silver gas shot out of the tip of his wand, which excited Harry instantly.

Lyra had seen what a Guardian Angel looked like a thousand times with Fred and George, and even the silver smoke she spewed out herself was much bigger than this, but she still clapped her hands in support.

“Very good,” Professor Lupin said, always employing an encouraging teaching approach. “Then let’s try it with the Dementors. Are you ready?”

Harry nodded, gripping his wand tightly. He tried to recall the joy of flying on a broomstick for the first time, but... the last time he encountered a Dementor, he heard his mother scream... Just as Harry's thoughts were drifting, Professor Lupin released the Boggart version of the Dementor.

The effect was incredibly realistic. The moment the Dementor crawled out of the box, the classroom lights flickered and went out. Lyra, standing to the side, could feel the room grow cold and couldn't help but shiver.

"Palmtophanath pilgrim! Patrol! Patrol!" Lyra could hear Harry shouting incessantly in the darkness, and the silver smoke emanating from the tip of his wand allowed Lyra and Professor Lupin to pinpoint Harry's location.

But the silver smoke quickly dissipated, and with a thud, Lyra guessed that Harry had fallen.

*Snap!* The lights came back on, and Professor Lupin put away his wand, pulled Harry up from the floor, gave him some chocolates, and offered him a few words of comfort.

While Harry was resting, Lyra began frantically searching her mind for happy memories.

She was very familiar with the spell and could spray out a fairly large cloud of silver smoke, but it never quite took shape.

When practicing with the twins, George and Fred offered some advice, such as choosing the happiest memories, focusing intently on the memories, and only thinking about one thing at a time. But the key point is that she doesn't seem to be unhappy in her life, or rather, in the game. Whether it's falling in love or breaking up, doing homework or taking exams, these are all game experiences, and they are all joyful.

She seemed neither unhappy nor extremely happy.

"Lyra, are you ready?" Professor Lupin asked, placing his hand on the box.

Leila nodded, deciding to recall the joy of eating the first floating ice cream ball.

"Begin!" Lupin opened the box, and once again, a Dementor clad in black robes floated out. Soon, a putrid hand reached for Lyra—

"Hoo..." Just as Lyra opened her mouth to utter the first syllable of the spell, she heard a snap, and the Dementor turned into a lifeless puppet named Lyra.

"..."

Harry's mouth dropped open, and the Chocolate Frog took the opportunity to jump out of its cage, much to Professor Lupin's surprise.

Lyra wasn't giving up and tried again—

*Snap!* The doll Lyra reappears.

Try again—

Snapped!

......

After trying many times without giving up, the two-person tutoring session turned into one-on-one tutoring for Harry.

*

“It’s unbelievable!” Lyra complained loudly as she sneaked out to join Nott and Bell’s walk that evening. “I, Lyra White, an unremarkable little magic prodigy, can’t even learn a simple Patronus Charm!”

Theodore Nott was used to his Gryffindor friend's daily boasting and shameless behavior, and he was completely unaffected as he pointed out a few key points—

"First, you do have a talent for spells and shapeshifting, but you can't be called a genius."

"Secondly, the Patronus Charm is not an 'ordinary' spell. It is a very powerful and ancient defensive spell that most wizards cannot cast successfully. Therefore, wizards who can cast the Patronus Charm are considered to have extraordinary magical abilities."

"Third, although the Guardian Charm is a difficult advanced spell to learn, it is currently mainly used to resist and expel Dementors. It is a very useless spell and not worth spending a lot of effort to learn."

"...You can completely skip the first point, thank you." Lyra rolled her eyes. "It's not that the Dementors have been hanging around us all semester; last time they even broke into the pitch and caused Gryffindor to lose to Hufflepuff—"

“In fact…” Before Theodore Nott could finish speaking, a soft, warm hand covered his mouth.

“If you utter another word,” Lyra threatened, flashing her wand, “I’ll poke you with it!”

Theodore Nott shifted uncomfortably. He had never been so close to any woman before, the most he'd ever done was dance ballroom with Daphne.

“If you absolutely must learn it,” Theodore said, ignoring the strange reaction in his heart, and changed the subject, “there are actually some tricks to it. Recalling happy memories helps in casting the Patronus Charm. Most importantly, you need to be determined.”

"I tried to recall the happy memories, and I really wanted to succeed in casting the spell, so why did I still fail?" Leila asked with a bitter face.

For some reason, seeing his dog friend's delicate nose wrinkle slightly reminded Theodore of his own dog, Laputa, who had made a similar expression—both were rather adorable...

“A strong will requires a powerful desire to succeed, and the feeling of wanting to protect someone from the bottom of your heart is different,” Theodore further explained. “Like the Unforgivable Curse, everyone knows the spell, but without a strong desire to kill, simply reciting Avada Kedavra won’t work.”

“A strong desire…” Lyra tried it thoughtfully, but still failed.

Theodore reflected on his dog-loving friends' daily words and actions, attempting to offer guidance from a quirky but potentially effective angle—

“Guardians have another advantage: they can relay messages for their owners and serve as a means of communication, making them safer and more effective than owls and two-way mirrors,” Theodore said, looking at the increasingly bright smoky gray eyes of the black-haired girl. After thinking for a moment, he decided to summarize the last sentence using the black-haired girl’s own quirky words. “Guardians are all very visually appealing, and using a guardian to send messages is a very cool thing to do.”

"!!!" Lyra, who is both a fan of good looks and a lazy person, immediately took out her wand again, her heart fluttering.

"Take the God's Protection!"

A giant silver eagle, gleaming with dazzling light, appeared before the two of them. After circling joyfully around Lyra, it flapped its wings and soared into the sky, roaming freely in the air.
