Chapter 139 The War Begins
Tsunade remained silent.
Having lived this long, when Shizune said "there are always dozens," her brain still went blank for a moment.
A moment later, she realized what was happening and couldn't hide the surprise in her eyes.
"Isn't anyone going to do anything about this?"
"Is old man Sarutobi just going to stand by and watch?"
Shizune asked, puzzled, "Why would the Hokage concern himself with such a thing?"
"Besides, you can't blame Nebula; those women threw themselves at her!"
"This is not his fault."
Tsunade remained silent.
She then abandoned the topic of conversation with Shizune and shifted her attention back to the research on the front lines.
Meanwhile, Sarutobi Asuma and Yuhi Kurenai were settling into their new place.
Inside the tent, she made up the bed and prepared daily necessities. Kurenai also made the portion for Shingetsu Seiun.
Sarutobi Asuma watched with a hint of jealousy.
"Red, let Nebula do it himself when he gets back. Even if he's the captain, we don't need to make his bed for him."
Kurenai Yuhi casually replied, "We're teammates, this is nothing to worry about."
Sarutobi Asuma thought to himself, "You've never been one to make my bed."
He frowned.
"Red, isn't your bed a bit too close to Nebula?"
"Is it?" Kurenai felt a pang of panic, got up to look, and sure enough.
There were three simple beds. Hers and Shingetsu Seiun's were so close they were almost touching, while Sarutobi Asuma's bed was far to the side. From a distance, it looked like a family room.
"Oh, I forgot," Kurenai said. "I was just thinking of cleaning up the floor, but I forgot to move it back."
Seeing that Kurenai Yuhi had moved the bed back to its original position, with the distance between the two sides perfectly aligned, Asuma Sarutobi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After Shingetsu Seiun returned, Yuhi Kurenai was the first to greet him.
"Nebula, what did Lady Tsunade say?"
"It didn't say much." Shinzuki Seiun handed the mission scroll to Yuhi Kurenai: "Just a simple mission deployment."
"Get some rest after you've finished packing. We'll start the mission tomorrow morning."
In the following days, Shenyue Xingyun led the two on missions. Initially, they were assigned simple tasks such as defense and transporting and protecting supplies. After becoming familiar with the camp, they began to undertake field missions.
Surrounding reconnaissance and guerrilla-style vigilance.
The Sand Village began to launch a probing attack.
However, under Tsunade's deployment, Konoha's defenses were very effective, and the small force could not cause much of a commotion.
During the break, Sarutobi Asuma said, "Red, Nebula."
"Do you think Sunagakure is scared and doesn't plan to fight anymore?"
Kurenai Yuhi: "Why do you say that?"
Sarutobi Asuma said, "I've heard about it."
"The team sent by Sunagakure seems to be short-handed due to financial difficulties. Compared to us, they won't have an advantage if a real fight breaks out."
Kurenai Yuhi said, "It would be best if a fight didn't break out."
"I really hope this situation will end soon."
The outlook for the Divine Moon Nebula is not optimistic.
"They'll probably still play."
"Moreover, if a fight breaks out, Konoha might suffer a loss."
Kurenai Yuhi asked, puzzled, "Why?"
Shenyue Xingyun said, "The war has already begun, and it won't stop until enough people have died."
The conflicts between the major ninja villages in the ninja world have never subsided; they are either waging war or preparing for war. Konoha claims to love peace, but with Danzo still around, in reality, none of them truly love peace.
"Furthermore, Lady Tsunade's arrangements are too conservative."
Sarutobi Asuma asked in confusion, "Conservative?"
"I think it's great. The camp is very well organized."
Shenyue Xingyun shook her head: "This is war, not a hygiene competition."
"Lady Tsunade has been on the defensive the whole time, and has no intention of launching an attack."
"In war, the side that strikes first always gains an advantage."
This seemed to confirm his words. A few days later, Sunagakure launched its first serious attack.
Taking advantage of a southwest wind, thick white fog rose from the dense forest in the direction of Sunagakure, and finally drifted towards the Konoha camp under the influence of the wind.
At first, the patrolling ninjas thought it was due to the weather, but when the white mist rolled in, they felt short of breath and their companions collapsed one after another, and they finally realized something was wrong.
"Enemy attack!!~"
The shouts sounded somewhat weak due to the side effects of the poison, but the piercing signal flares exploded in the sky.
The ninjas in the camp immediately sprang into action.
They lined up and assembled, taking up advantageous defensive positions.
However, the Sand Village's attack did not arrive immediately.
Large swaths of poisonous fog continued to billow out, drifting towards the camp with the wind.
Wind Release ninjas used their Wind Release techniques to try to disperse the poisonous fog, while Water Release ninjas created heavy rain in an attempt to neutralize the poison.
It had some effect, but the continuous toxic fog and natural wind made the results less than satisfactory.
"Boom! Boom!!!"
"Kill!!!"
When the poisonous fog finally dissipated and many of the Konoha ninjas lost their fighting ability, the Sunagakure ninjas rushed in.
In terms of numbers, they were at a disadvantage, and in terms of high-level combat strength, they were no stronger than Konoha. However, taking advantage of Konoha's collective poisoning, they unleashed a large number of ninjutsu and launched an attack.
When the Konoha Jonin, the Shoulder-Top Slug, began a large-scale counterattack, the Sunagakure retreated like a tide.
The ground was littered with corpses.
Half an hour later.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
"Excuse me, excuse me!"
"First aid! First aid!"
Medical ninjas moved constantly through the Konoha camp. Despite their feet never touching the ground, the ninjas around them continued to die one after another, their cries of agony filling the air.
The poison from Sunagakure is very potent.
Even in a challenging environment like toxic fog, it still achieved rapid and sustained effects.
Ordinary medical ninjas are simply unable to cure this toxin.
"No! We can't solve this."
"Go and fetch Lady Tsunade immediately!"
Just as the medical ninja was shouting, swarms of slugs emerged from the camp, each one clinging to the shoulders of the poisoned ninja, their unique chakra release temporarily suppressing the poison gas.
Soon, people carried the ninjas, who were poisoned to varying degrees, into Tsunade's tent.
"Order! All ninjas who are not poisoned, be on high alert! Beware of a sneak attack from Sunagakure."
All the ninjas who were not poisoned, along with those whose injuries could still be suppressed, were put into a state of combat readiness. Inside the headquarters tent, Tsunade analyzed the toxins extracted by the medical ninjas, and only stopped her research when night fell.
"The detoxification sample has been prepared."
"Silence, go get it for the medical department."
In the latter half of the night, the cries and wails in the camp gradually subsided, some because of the antidote, and others because they hadn't been able to hold on and had died.
In the brightly lit headquarters tent, Hiashi Hyuga looked at Tsunade, whose face looked exhausted.
"Lady Tsunade, what should we do next?"
Tsunade said, "Let everyone rest first."
"At this time of year, there shouldn't be any southwest winds for the next few days."
Hiashi Hyuga: "Should we prepare for a counterattack?"
Tsunade thought for a moment and said, "Let's talk about it after everyone's fighting strength has recovered."
