Chapter 40 Rules of Confrontation
Chapter 40 Rules of Confrontation
P.S.: To make reading easier, I hand-drew a map of Fog Valley in the book club.
"First, let's talk about team formation—"
Seeing the freshmen gradually calming down, Ares said in a gentle tone,
"Given that this class is an open class, and this is your first time playing this game, we need an exhibition match. Therefore, you can form teams freely without forming teams by college."
There will be two teams competing, each with 8 members. You can decide on the team captain yourselves.
Freshmen from all four colleges were gathered here, and there were certainly more than 16 people, which meant that many people did not have to participate—this made some timid children relent.
"Next are the rules of the game—"
Professor Delfino straightened his voice and continued:
"Rule 1: When the match is announced to begin, the two teams participating in the competition will appear at the two farthest opposite corners of this generally rectangular Fog Valley, which I call the [Respawn Points]."
As you can see, there are three paths between the two respawn points that allow for mutual approach, which I call the "top lane," "middle lane," and "bottom lane." All team members can freely choose any of the three paths to approach the opposing team and attempt to "kill" them. Each successful kill of an opposing member earns 1 point, and killing the opposing team's captain earns 20 points, at which point the match ends.
After the game, the team with the higher score wins.
Each match is limited to 15 minutes. If both captains are still alive and have the same number of kills when the time is up, the match is a draw.
In subsequent formal lessons, the winning team will earn 20 points for the academy, while the losing team will lose 10 points.
20 points?!
Many young wizards' eyes sparkled with excitement!
They are only first-year wizards, and the chances of winning 20 points for their school in one go are slim! Moreover, they can also reduce the opponent's score by 10 points, which makes a difference of 30 points!
The point difference in a single match can almost determine who wins the Academy Cup!
However, what the young wizards were more concerned about was—
"Killed?!"
Neville called out in a trembling voice.
"That's just a figure of speech, Mr. Longbottom. I certainly don't mean for you to kill each other—"
Professor Delfino smiled and said,
"Listen to me... Rule Two: Any member killed in Mist Valley will be automatically moved to their respective [Respawn Point] and forcibly petrified for 30 seconds, preventing them from joining the competition."
"Um, you must not attack a petrified wizard... Attacks have no effect on petrified wizards."
Harry pursed his dry lips, staring intently at the eloquent Professor Delphinor, his breathing gradually quickening.
It sounds like... definitely a very interesting game!
However, he still had two questions waiting to be answered... and they were answered!
"Rule Three—"
Professor Delfino raised his voice, trying to calm the restless young wizards.
"Considering your individual limited stamina and other factors, you will be given three [items] during the competition. The first one is: a flying broom!"
Snapped!
Professor Delphinor snapped his fingers, and 16 tattered flying brooms appeared above the young wizards' heads!
"An old-fashioned shooting star!"
Harry heard Ron beside him say something, and clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction.
"I have one at home too... If I accelerate at full speed, I can probably be a little faster than a butterfly!"
"For safety reasons, these flying brooms will not fly higher than thirty feet."
Professor Delfino added,
"The second prop is: a glowing cloak!"
And so, sixteen cloaks appeared... Harry thought these cloaks were quite stylish, half of them emitting a scarlet glow, and the other half a blue glow... They were extremely conspicuous in the misty valley.
"- The cloak has two functions. First, in situations where visibility is poor, the cloak allows you to confirm where your teammates and opponents are... Oh, and the captains of the two teams also need to wear red and blue crowns respectively."
So... oh, the second function of the cloak is to calculate damage... you'll understand that soon enough, let me continue—”
Two crowns appeared above the cloak, resembling top hats. Harry figured that once he wore them, he would be recognized from a great distance.
"The third item is a special magic wand."
Professor Delfino quickened his pace.
A strangely shaped magic wand appeared.
It has a handle like the longsword worn by medieval knights, and four small round buttons in convenient locations, in red, yellow, blue and silver-green colors.
Many young wizards guessed that it was based on the colors of the four house emblems.
"Red can emit red beams, representing damage... Oh, it's just a symbol; actually being hit won't have any effect."
During the match, the red button can be used an unlimited number of times, but there is a one-second interval between uses. If a teammate is hit by the red beam five times, they die; the cloak will petrify them and take them to the [respawn point]. If the team captain is hit ten times, they also die, and the match ends.
"So, what are the remaining three buttons for, Professor Delfino?"
You could tell how interested he was in the game just from Ernie Macmillan's shrill voice. Even Neville, Harry noticed, had turned red in the face.
After all, this isn't a real fight, and it's quite entertaining!
The other three buttons represent [status boosts], each with a different function.
Yellow button: The emitted yellow light can form a yellow field. Opponents who are trapped in this circle will have their movement speed slowed by 50%. The field lasts for 10 seconds.
Silver-green button: This button represents speed. Pressing it will increase the speed of the user's flying broom by 100% for 10 seconds.
Blue button: Emits blue light that can petrify the opponent for 10 seconds;
These three buttons may be given different effects in each subsequent game. Each life can only use them twice, and the number of uses is reset after death.
And initially, they were all inactive.
"What do you mean it's not activated, Professor Delfino?"
Ron started yelling uncontrollably.
"Once the match begins, I will place a dwarf pig monster on each of the three lanes at locations close to both sides' respawn points... These locations will be marked with glowing yellow, blue, and green flags—"
Professor Delfino said with a smile,
"If you want to activate the button's effect, you need to use your own wands and the spells you learned in the first half of the class to defeat the dwarf pig monster. Then, the button of the corresponding color will be activated."
Additionally, if any member defeats the dwarf pig monster, the corresponding button will be activated for the entire team, and the dwarf pig monster will disappear!
Needless to say, the effectiveness of these three buttons is crucial in helping to win the game, and according to the rules, it is almost impossible for a team to activate all three buttons... at most, only two can be activated!
Harry's last question was also answered—the game content was linked to the teaching!
"That's how the 'Protect the Captain' game works—"
Seeing the young wizards' faces lighting up with great interest and becoming restless, Ares smiled and said...
"Let's team up, everyone... Oh, a friendly reminder, for those of you who have never used a flying broom before, I suggest you check things out first."
