Chapter 31 Thank you all!
Chapter 31 Thank you all!
Putting aside the warm and friendly mutual assistance among colleagues, Dumbledore simply couldn't stand Hagrid's pitiful eyes any longer, so he took the initiative to put the grumpy three-headed dog into a deep sleep.
Ultimately, this incident wasn't Cerberus's fault, and there's no need to keep it hanging indefinitely.
With Dumbledore's signal, Professor McGonagall also put the three-headed dog down.
"Thank you, thank you..." Hagrid wiped away his tears and stepped forward to tear off the chains.
During this process, Dumbledore suddenly noticed that there were several pieces of cloth stuck on the teeth of the three-headed dog's middle mouth.
"What is that?" Dumbledore asked.
At his prompting, Hagrid noticed this as well, taking the rags off and examining them closely. "The clothes the troll wore?"
"The troll doesn't wear clothes."
"Oh, I'm sorry, Professor Snape," Hagrid said, offering the fragment to Dumbledore.
Dumbledore raised his hand and pointed gently.
"Restored to its original condition!"
There was clearly more than just this one piece of cloth. Under the influence of the spell, other fragments flew in from all directions and actively adhered to the area around the largest piece.
Before long, a pointed hat appeared in front of everyone.
"Is that the hood of the school uniform robe?" Professor McGonagall paused, seemingly realizing something, then immediately shook her head.
"That's impossible. We came as soon as we heard the noise. If any students had left, I would have seen them."
After saying that, she looked at Professor Flitwick, who had just come over.
Professor Flitwick immediately understood and said, "It's not upstairs either. I've been keeping an eye out."
"Where is Mr. Ollivander?" Dumbledore suddenly asked. "I heard he hasn't attended the banquet."
"Sirlen Ollivander?" Professor Flitwick was taken aback at first, then nodded after a moment's thought. "He was there too, and he even helped maintain order. I remember it very clearly."
"Where?"
"Second floor, near the library," Professor Flitwick said.
"Ah, it seems Potter lied," Snape said coldly. "Just like his father, arrogant and a habitual liar..."
"Severus," Dumbledore interrupted him.
Snape didn't seem very happy, but he kept quiet.
"Should we check the students' hats?" Professor McGonagall asked promptly, changing the subject.
"No need," Dumbledore shook his head. "They were probably brought in by the trolls by accident. It doesn't matter."
In fact, this plain pointed hat is practically a standard part of the school uniform robe, and it's so common at Hogwarts that the person who lost their hat wouldn't just sit idly by, so checking it wouldn't make much sense.
"I guess I'll have to go to the school hospital after all." Snape stepped forward. "I'll brew a potent potion for Professor Quirrell; perhaps we can get the right answer from him."
Of everyone present, only Snape remained true to his original intention: to get rid of Quirrell.
As for whether there might be anything else mixed in with the special potion he mentioned... the answer is no.
However, Dumbledore did not agree.
After staying at the scene for a while to make sure there were no other clues missed, everyone left one after another, leaving only Hagrid there to take care of the injured Cerberus, Louie.
On the way back, Snape said again, "Dumbledore, I still don't think it's a good idea. It's too dangerous to leave that three-headed dog in the castle."
"As you saw, even with only two heads left, it could kill an adult giant in minutes. What if it gets hungry one day and barges into the castle without a care in the world..."
"Don't worry, Cerberus won't break down that door," Dumbledore said. "And the house-elves in the kitchen will take good care of it."
"But……"
"I assure you, there won't be any problems."
Snape, who had been about to say something, could only shut up and instead said, "I'll keep an eye on Quirrell. He's definitely behind this."
"Thank you for your help."
The two parted ways at the top of the stairs.
……
Meanwhile, on the eighth floor, in the Gryffindor common room.
"When did you get back?!" Harry, who had just returned, was stunned to see Siren sitting in an armchair.
"I came back with everyone," Xiren said. "I was just wondering where you were; everyone said they hadn't seen you."
"We came to find you to tell you about the trolls at school," Harry said.
"You guys?" Celen looked at him, then at Ron and Hermione beside him.
"When did your relationship become so good?"
"Who's close to her!" Ron immediately distanced himself. "We wouldn't be with her if she hadn't pleaded for Harry."
"I was just stating the facts!" Hermione glared at him. "Did you think I wanted to be with you?"
Xilun looked at them in surprise.
He only learned the truth from Harry later.
Before the Halloween party, Hermione went to Professor McGonagall and gave her the whole story from her flying lesson, trying to prove that Malfoy was the one who broke the school rules. Harry was forced to get involved in order to protect his classmates' belongings.
Whether it was the truth or some harmless embellishment, Harry's confinement was lifted after Hermione came out of Professor McGonagall's office.
Then, at the Halloween party, Quirrell rushed in to tell everyone about the trolls, and the three of them decided to go find Siron, who was still outside, and set off together.
To be honest, Xilun was a little touched.
While the possibility of "Gryffindor mentality" at play cannot be ruled out, they are genuinely willing to go through with anything. More importantly, they would rather risk confronting trolls than reveal their whereabouts to the professor. These are the kind of friends you can make.
Xilun felt somewhat relieved.
"Don't worry," Harry patted his chest, "Professor McGonagall only deducted points from us, not yours."
and many more……
Siren's smile froze. "They didn't deduct points from my score... does that mean Professor McGonagall knew I wasn't at the banquet?"
“Yes.” Ron nodded matter-of-factly. “But we’ve already explained that you didn’t have time to attend the banquet and didn’t know about the trolls, you didn’t leave midway.”
"Well, thank you so much," Siren said expressionlessly.
Well, it's too early to be happy.
Xilun felt somewhat helpless; he really didn't know how to describe his current feelings.
Ten minutes earlier, with the help of the map given to him by Fred and George, Celen successfully slipped into the secret passage before Snape and Professor McGonagall arrived, took a shortcut to the second floor, blended into the student group, and at the same time managed to attract Professor Flitwick's attention.
Everything was going smoothly, and I thought I could extricate myself from this situation, but unexpectedly...
Xilun sighed.
Fine, whatever.
Even if the professors find out, what can they do? He indirectly solved the troll threat for the professors, so they can't just deduct his points, can they?
As for the injured Cerberus, that was done by the trolls, what does it have to do with Siron!
