Chapter 20 A Bountiful Harvest
Chapter 20 A Bountiful Harvest
The attacker was standing in the shadows at the corner of the corridor.
Its size is similar to that of the faceless, stitched-together corpse, with a height of two meters and thick limbs.
But it had no skin at all. Its scarlet muscles were exposed to the air, and its body was covered with hideous bone spurs.
Most strikingly, this guy's head was completely covered by an extremely thick, protruding, cold, bony shell.
At this moment, it clasped its hands together and pointed at Luo Lan. Two thin slits split open in its palms, and bone spurs kept emerging as its muscles contracted. Loading, aiming, and firing—the whole process was as precise as a living crossbow.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh!"
The sound of air being torn apart was continuous. Extraordinarily hard, pale bone spikes rained down, each one embedding itself deeply into the stone bricks, leaving fist-sized bullet holes and flying debris in all directions.
Previously, when fighting the faceless zombie horde, this narrow corridor, only two or three people wide, was Luo Lan's excellent defensive line. Now, facing dense long-range sniping from the other end of the corridor, the narrow alley has become Luo Lan's constraint.
Even though Luo Lan kept swinging his eight thick, long limbs and using [Grasp Bristle] to switch footholds between the walls and the ceiling, he tried his best to dodge.
However, the massive carapace shape derived from the giant tarantula is too conspicuous to be seen here.
The pale white bone spikes poured down like a torrential rain. The Dark Gold Shell and the Steel Spider Spear inevitably grazed the flying bone spikes, sparking a series of dazzling sparks.
Several bone spikes had even pierced into the [Dark Gold Shell]. Even the high-density gold-forged defensive barrier began to emit ominous cracking sounds under the high-frequency, high-density barrage of sharp bone spikes.
Using the momentum from a side jump, Luo Lan dodged back to the corner of the corridor, using the corner as cover to avoid some of the frontal attacks.
The dense bone spikes whistled past the corner bricks, carving deep furrows into the stone wall, and rubble flew everywhere.
Hiding in the shadows around the corner, the scarlet single eye switched to [thermal vision], its vision penetrating the thick stone walls and staring at the passage on the other side of the corridor.
Through the stone wall, all that could be seen was a dark red heat source moving slowly. The hands were clasped together in the same position, with the heat source in the palms facing Luo Lan.
The thermal vision scanned the corridor again and again, but there was no other living creature in the corridor.
[An elite monster? There's only one...]
Having confirmed that there was only one enemy and no other threats around, Luo Lan's pressure immediately lessened considerably.
If the number of enemies was the same as the number of faceless stitched-together corpses, Luo Lan wouldn't hesitate for a moment and would immediately turn and run. But since there's only one, there's room for maneuver.
Luo Lan turned her gaze to the passageway filled with the stitched-together remains of a faceless corpse.
Eight steel spider spears swiftly extended, their sharp tips piercing directly into the piles of grayish-white flesh.
With his eight segmented limbs taking turns exerting force, Luo Lan used the terrifying strength brought by his massive body to directly pick up heavy and bloody pieces of corpse with his spider spears.
After the corner of the corridor, the pale bone spurs continued to shoot tirelessly toward this place.
Luo Lan calculated the trajectory of the opponent's shot and suddenly swung her forelimbs.
"Whoosh—whoosh—"
With a sticky sound of flesh being torn apart, several large, sticky, stitched-up pieces of corpse were flung away from around the corner by Luo Lan like cannonballs.
These heavy chunks of flesh crashed directly onto the location across the corridor where the bone-spiked, stitched-together corpse was.
Bone spurs and bits of flesh collided head-on in mid-air, producing a dull thud as flesh and blood pierced through each other.
The originally impenetrable rain of bone spikes was partially blocked by these thrown obstacles, and the storm-like suppressive firepower immediately slowed down.
After another burst of rapid bone spikes flying, the shooting suddenly slowed down.
From around the corner, Luo Lan peeked out and saw that the stitched corpse's chest cavity had shrunk, seemingly needing time to regenerate new bone spurs.
[Chance!]
With a simultaneous burst of power from its eight thick, segmented limbs, it shattered the stone bricks on the ground. The massive, dark gold body burst forth from behind cover at the corner of the corridor.
At the other end of the corridor, the crimson flesh of the bone-stitched corpse, exposed to the air, throbbed wildly, and several more bone spurs, not yet fully formed, squeezed out from the cracks in its hands.
"Kukuku..."
It raised its hand and unleashed another hasty barrage of shots.
This time, Luo Lan didn't dodge at all. He charged forward despite the slowing barrage of bone spikes.
"Click click click—"
The bone spurs struck one after another, making a dull thud as they hit the carapace.
The dark gold shell was pierced with several holes, fragments flew everywhere, and a few bone spikes were even embedded in the shell without falling out.
Ignoring the damage to his shell, Luo Lan continued to charge forward.
As the distance closed, Luo Lan could clearly see the hard skeletal head of the stitched corpse and the constantly writhing sutures on its chest.
The stitched corpse seemed to sense the threat, its chest cavity expanded faster, and the frequency of its bone spikes increased sharply, but Luo Lan was already close by!
"Sizzle—"
The two forelegs thrust out swiftly, their tips slicing through the air with a piercing whistling sound.
A spider spear pierced through the stitched corpse's flesh and blood, going in along the stitches from the center of its chest cavity. Another spider spear pierced its skeletal skull, sending white bone fragments flying.
Dark red blood gushed from both wounds simultaneously, flowing down the spear shaft.
Just as Luo Lan extended two more arthropod legs, intending to cut it into pieces like the faceless stitched corpse, the stitched corpse's body twitched violently a few times and then went still.
[Is it a high-attack, low-defense type?]
Luo Lan pulled the spider spear out of its body, and dark red blood splattered onto the bluestone ground.
The corpse swayed twice, then fell backward, crashing into the pile of bone spurs it had previously shot out.
As the last stitched corpse collapsed, Luo Lan used [Thermal Vision] to examine it carefully again and again.
All that remained in sight was the gradually cooling wreckage; there was no longer any heat fluctuation from living creatures.
After confirming that all the stitched-up corpses in the entire underground palace had been cleared out, Luo Lan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Looking around, all that could be seen was a literal mountain of corpses and a sea of blood!
The narrow alley was piled high with grayish-white body parts of a faceless, stitched-together corpse, layers upon layers of severed limbs stacked together. Crimson pus and blood pooled on the ground, seeping into the cracks between the stone slabs.
At the corner exit, the traces of two writhing, stitched-up corpses exploding were even more horrifying. The stone slabs on the ground were corroded into two large pits, and the acid at the bottom of the pits was still emitting wisps of white smoke. Yellowish pus spread along the cracks in the stone around the pits, leaving shallow rotten marks wherever it passed.
Luo Lan's limbs were attached to the sides of the legs, and the dark red blood from the bone spurs sewn onto the corpse flowed slowly, drawing a red mark in the small pool of purple pus.
The walls were densely covered with white bone spurs, stretching from head to toe across the entire narrow corridor. Some spur tips still had bits of flesh stuck to them, while others had broken off and been trampled into white powder by Luo Lan, who had just been running wildly.
Luo Lan looked down at his Dark Gold Shell, which was pierced and torn by bone spikes. The once thick and massive shell was now riddled with holes.
I took another look at the newly forged [Steel Spider Spear], and noticed that its surface had several corrosion dents left by splashed acid.
Luo Lan felt a little regretful about the battle losses, but more than that, she was looking forward to a great harvest after the battle.
What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Thinking this, Luo Lan crawled back into the narrow alleyway filled with stitched-up corpse remains.
Eight arthropods creaked as they stepped on the body parts, and a bony hand emerged from the mouth, its five fingers spread wide, and began to devour.
The sound of flesh tearing echoed in the deathly silent narrow corridor, as the pale, lifeless skin slowly disappeared from the ground. Crimson blood trickled down between the fingers of the bony hand, dripping back into the pool of blood and splashing again.
