Little Guava put away his pistol and said helplessly.

He knew the cruelty and ruthlessness of this world, and he also understood the helplessness and hardship of these women.

"Is this how Shinjuku City is managed?" Chang Wei sneered, looking at everything before him, his heart filled with disappointment and anger.

He couldn't imagine that such a dark side could exist in this city full of hope.

After returning to his lodgings, Chang Wei started a fire to cook.

Soon after, canned lean meat, stir-fried vegetables, stir-fried meat, roast chicken, and steamed buns were taken out of his storage ring.

Seeing such a sumptuous meal, Little Guava was dumbfounded. He had never imagined that such a luxurious life existed in the world.

"These foods..."

Little Balala stared in shock at the food in Chang Wei's hand, his eyes filled with envy and admiration.

He knew that although he worked in a government department, he only received fifty jin of food coupons each month.

Compared to the delicious food before him, his life was worlds apart.

However, Chang Wei did not become complacent because of this.

He knew all too well that the food he had was hard-earned, and he understood that there were many people in the world struggling to survive.

Therefore, he cherished everything he had even more and became more determined to follow his own path.

On the edge of the dilapidated base city, Chang Wei smiled slightly at the group of people sitting around him, his eyes revealing a subtle determination: "Hey, everyone, it's time to get some fresh air. Tomorrow, let's go and see what this base city is like, shall we?"

Upon hearing this, a hint of gratitude flashed in Xiaobaluo's eyes. He nodded quickly, as if he couldn't wait to follow in Chang Wei's footsteps.

Sato and the others, however, maintained their indifferent attitude, as if they had become numb to the world.

As the first rays of the rising sun touched the earth, Chang Wei left his residence with only Shadow and a few other powerful evolved beings.

They headed towards the city wall, the base city's first line of defense and the place where the workers toiled.

Approaching the city wall, one can see hundreds of workers sweating profusely under the scorching sun, their upper bodies bare, using their rough hands to lay cement.

Their faces were etched with exhaustion, but their eyes shone with an indomitable light.

Nearby, soldiers with guns coldly watched, ready to punch anyone who slacked off.

"The people here are all striving to survive."

Chang Wei said in a low voice, his eyes scanning the crowd, searching for those figures who were struggling to breathe under the weight of life.

Suddenly, his gaze settled on a small, thin figure.

He was a boy who looked only fifteen or sixteen years old. He was shirtless and so thin that he was almost nothing but skin and bones.

His body was covered in bruises and scars, but he gritted his teeth and struggled forward carrying a heavy bag of cement.

Large beads of sweat slid down his forehead, dripping onto the ground and splashing up tiny water droplets. Every step he took seemed so difficult, as if he might collapse at any moment.

But he did not give up. His eyes shone with determination, as if telling the world that no matter how difficult life was, he would persevere.

This scene deeply touched Chang Wei's heart.

He stopped and looked quietly at the little boy. He seemed to see his past self in him, and he also saw those people who were struggling to survive.

He understood that in this world full of dangers and the unknown, every life deserves respect.

"Hurry up, stop dawdling!" A stern rebuke interrupted Chang Wei's thoughts. He turned his head and saw a soldier waving a whip, striking the little boy.

The little boy screamed in pain, but he didn't stop; instead, he continued walking forward.

A flash of anger crossed Chang Wei's eyes.

He took a deep breath, then strode away with firm steps.

In a dimly lit corner of the construction site, a cold voice broke the silence.

"You're a piece of trash!"

A burly figure stood like an iron tower, and with a heavy kick, the thin boy fell to the ground like a leaf, the cement bag rolling to the side.

The boy's body slammed heavily onto the hard concrete floor, and blood instantly bloomed at his knee.

However, he did not utter a groan in the face of such humiliation. He merely glanced coldly at the burly man, then, like a wounded lone wolf, he silently struggled to his feet, picked up the cement bag again, and continued his heavy steps.

"Hmph, what a useless piece of trash. He could be blown over by the wind and still comes to do this kind of heavy work."

Someone nearby sneered, their eyes full of contempt.

"I heard that this kid has a younger sister. When she was bullied, he went berserk and bit her to death."

Some people whispered among themselves, watching the boy's retreating figure, a playful smile playing on their lips, "He shares half of his food with his sister every day, he doesn't even have enough for himself, how can he have the energy to work?"

"What an idiot! In this day and age, he can't even survive himself, yet he cares about the lives of others?" someone sneered.

However, some people cast admiring glances at the boy: "This kid is loyal and kind, not bad!"

Even so, they had no intention of standing up for the boy, after all, in this cruel world, survival was the most important thing.

Chang Wei and the others watched all this silently, each with their own thoughts.

When they saw the boy stand up again and stagger forward, a strange light flashed in Chang Wei's eyes.

He seemed to see a wounded wolf, its eyes filled with defiance and wildness. Although it was temporarily suppressed, it would surely break out and hurt people once the time was right.

Seeing the boy's stubbornness, the burly man felt a surge of anger. He stepped forward again and punched the boy in the face, sending him flying two meters away.

Then, he kicked the boy hard, and his fists and feet rained down on him.

The boy hugged his head tightly, curled up on the ground, and didn't say a word. But his eyes grew colder and colder, as if they could freeze everything.

"Sir, you'll kill him if you do that!"

Someone couldn't help but remind me.

But the burly man seemed not to hear him and continued to vent his anger.

The move was too severe; it's indeed difficult to explain to the higher-ups.

A colleague interjected with concern.

The workers, their eyes filled with fear, dared not utter a word to defend the scene, as if they were blind to it.

It's alright, he knows what he's doing and won't go too far.

A calm voice offered words of comfort.

Chang Wei observed for a while, then left with the others. He turned to Shadow and said, "Shadow, go and take him to our place later."

Little Balala was surprised by this; such things happened all the time in the base, but he didn't expect Chang Wei, an evolved being, to care so much.

Chief Changwei, what is this?

Chang Wei looked at Shadow, his eyes filled with admiration: "I have high hopes for that young man, Shadow. Remember to bring him here safely. I really like this kid."

The shadow nodded and then left.

Chang Wei and his group continued deeper into the area, where they came to a section enclosed by an iron fence.

Inside, the houses are well-organized, the streets are clean and tidy, the trees are shady, and the infrastructure is complete.

The patrolling guards gave people a sense of peace.

They even saw a lady leisurely walking her pug.

Outside the fence, however, lay a completely different scene: filthy, crowded, and dilapidated, a stark contrast to the inner perimeter.

"This must be the inner perimeter you were talking about," Chang Wei said to Xiao Balala, looking at everything.

Little Balala's face showed envy: "Yes, this is the inner perimeter, where only the powerful and wealthy can live. Here, they can kill ordinary people without even being punished. For us nobody, life and death are in their hands."

Chang Wei chuckled lightly, turned and left: Let's go.

He knew all too well that privileged classes always exist, regardless of the era.

This is a weakness of human nature, but also an inevitable consequence of the development of human civilization.

Even he himself could not completely avoid this behavior.

But the rulers here, and their power, are something he cannot ignore.

After recapturing Shinjuku, some forces indulged in pleasure and ignored the suffering of the people, which was a shortsighted move.

For a power to develop in the long term, the most important thing is to win the hearts and minds of the people.

Treating the people as worthless and trampling on them at will is tantamount to digging one's own grave.

The night was deep, and the lights inside and outside the base were quite different.

The inner area was brightly lit, while the outer area had only a few flickering candlelight, mostly emitted by candles.

.

The surrounding area lacks power supply facilities, making survival difficult enough, let alone enjoying electricity.

Kawahara Yi dragged his tired and injured body out of the construction site, his young face filled with indifference, but he tightly hugged a steamed bun in his arms, as if it were his only warmth.
