Chapter 42 We Are All Mortals
Chapter 42 We Are All Mortals
Chapter 42 We Are All Mortals
Chen Tao stood at a distance, his soul roaming in the darkness. Endless knowledge exploded into his mind. He could even clearly recall the warm feeling of blood splattering on his face when Bane Bat committed his first murder, his broken spine gushing out.
"I am Chen Tao."
He said to himself.
The giant dinosaur shrunk to the size of a normal person, two meters tall, in the instant before the zombie Bane could react, and then delivered a comet-like uppercut that sent him sprawling on his back.
The monsters residing in Bane watched helplessly as the bat-like figure leaped into the sky, and then the several-ton dinosaur plummeted to the ground.
boom!
Poison Ivy sat on a chair woven from vines, turning to look at Robin who had suddenly appeared beside her: "The virus that Jason and I created? He used all those ingredients to synthesize that failed potion."
"This is all thanks to Professor Goldbloom."
Robin stood quietly beside Poison Ivy: "Killer Croc has taken him to a safe place."
He turned his head slightly and whispered to Poison Ivy, "Ivy, don't you want to use the power of the Green of All Things to do something?"
Then he saw Poison Ivy with her head down, half of her face turned a rotten, ashen color.
This almost made young Robin jump out of his skin.
"Shh, don't make a sound." He heard the Poison Ivy, who was as lifeless as a corpse, whisper: "The power of the Green of All Things has weakened to its limit here, little red bird. I'm afraid I'm powerless now, and what you should do is maintain the illusion that I can still fight, instead of making a fuss here!"
"This is impossible!" Robin whispered anxiously to Poison Ivy, "The power of the Green of All Things is already corroding Bane's body through that potion. You should be greatly strengthened, and the Black of Decay should have been dispelled..."
"Wait, unless..."
Tim Drake's pupils contracted sharply as he looked towards the spot where the Plant Master had been lying: "Where did Plant Master Jason Wood go?"
"It's no use, mortal."
After a brief moment of panic, the rotten black servants regained their composure.
"Even if your power surpasses ours, you are still just a mortal..."
boom!
Batman's iron fist, imbued with unparalleled strength, sent Bane's head bouncing wildly around his neck like a bouncy ball.
"You cannot kill me when I am already dead..."
boom!
Batman, who had transformed back into a giant dinosaur, grabbed the other man's collar and shoved the zombie Bane into the ground, using a mouthful of mud to make him swallow his next words.
The decaying, black creation uttered a vicious curse: "You cannot escape death, mortal; you cannot withstand us."
"I don't need to fight you, I just need to disperse you," Chen Tao said. He pinned the zombie Bane to the ground.
"Bane wasn't in my plans, but coincidentally..."
"You are part of my plan."
He pulled the tube off his own back and connected it to the tube behind the zombie Bane.
"Ha, what's this now? Is it that venom called Titan's Venom?"
The zombie Bane's numb and ferocious face was unable to display any mocking expression. Half of his face had been split open by the violent punch, revealing a rotting tongue and half a tooth.
"The so-called Titan Venom cannot awaken this body at all; a mortal under our control could not possibly..."
"Shut up," Chen Tao said in a low voice.
"I am Bane the Bat now... He may be a bat, but he is also Bane."
Chen Tao thought for a moment, then said in a low voice, "A part of Bain overlaps with me. I understand him."
"And you don't even understand who Bane is."
呲!
Like the sound of sulfuric acid dripping onto skin, the zombie Bane let out a wail that was a mixture of two sounds: "What's going on?"
"The pool on Lhasa Road is also known as the Fountain of Youth. It's a treasure I obtained from the Assassin's Guild's lair."
He heard the freak called Batman coldly say, "This tube connects Bane and me. It can transmit not only Venom, but anything I've prepared beforehand. I've always known that anything with life is your nemesis."
"I'll always be prepared. Listen, scum, I might tell a lame joke or something under normal circumstances, but I'm fed up with being called a mere mortal."
"I'm going to show you the way things work in Gotham."
The scum heard the man's cold pronouncement: "You've never been to Gotham, huh? You don't understand what kind of adversaries the people of Gotham are. You see us as mere mortals... but perhaps you've forgotten."
"The darkness of decay is indeed a mysterious fundamental force, but you are merely a lowly agent of it; before Arkanss, you are insignificant."
"Akan...how do you know Master's name?"
"None of this matters."
It's not Batman speaking.
Bane the zombie's eyes darted around, looking at the other side of his face: "You..."
"I am Bane." The other half of Bane's face had regained human muscles, although it was completely devoid of color.
"So what?"
The rotten, black hunters still clamored: "How could mere mortals possibly escape the parasitic influence of the Great Death?"
"You're nothing more than..."
But they soon lost their voices.
"Because I am Bain."
The grayish-white rotting flesh quickly vanished from Bane's face: "I am Batman's enemy, an unprecedented foe."
"Because as long as Bane's consciousness returns, Bane can do it," Chen Tao interjected. "If Bane wants to."
The grayish-white rotting flesh receded from Bain's body, and Bain's tiger eyes were filled with an indescribable meaning: "I never expected things to turn out like this."
He said in a low voice, "You saved a viper, Batman. I myself am not much less harmful than these filthy, deadly monsters. Even if you help me, it won't change my determination to destroy you."
Chen Tao replied, "But at least from the perspective of being living beings, we are on the same side. Your fate is to be defeated by me and sent to Black Gate Prison, rather than becoming a zombie."
Bain remained silent.
He said, "I will spare your life—"
He shouted, "No matter what, we'll be enemies for life! But before that—I'll spare your life."
"And first of all, you have to focus on the present."
Bane saw Batman give him a slight chuckle, and the lines of his square jaw beneath the mask dazzled him.
He knew that he would never forget this scene even 100 years from now.
Chen Tao said:
"The most important characteristic of the Rotten Black is that it's like a bone-deep infection. I've long suspected that they might take advantage of my absence..."
Boom!
One by one, the big trees fell down.
What appeared before Bain and Chen Tao was the Plant Master, completely corrupted by the blackness of decay.
Bane's eyes were fixed on Batman.
"I never imagined I would fight alongside you, my enemy."
"But I had anticipated it all along, my enemy."
Batman replied to him like this.
