Chapter 86 A Meeting of Heroes: A Gathering of Talents
Although there is a row of unfinished tasks on the panel, this does not prevent Jung Eun from taking on new tasks after triggering them.
Since there's no time limit, even if I fail, it won't matter much. Why not take on a task if it's available?
With that thought in mind, Jung Eun decided to stay in the Batmobile and refuse to leave.
His mission required him to help Batman bring Halloween to a peaceful close, so he couldn't just give him some problematic candy.
He was quite perceptive and notified Batman immediately after receiving the candy. But even without him, Gordon would have delivered the clues to Batman, just a little later.
Making such insignificant contributions is not enough to pass the system's judgment.
To bring Halloween to a peaceful close—we must deal with the culprit who caused this chaos and the consequences they have brought.
Among Gotham's many villains, Scarecrow is not a difficult character to deal with; the most troublesome thing is the fear gas he possesses.
An antidote for this can't be developed in a short time, and every time the opponent comes out of Arkham, the version of the Fear Gas they have will be different.
Fortunately, thanks to the excellent matchmaking system, both Batman and the villains are novices with little experience in fighting each other.
The bats, however, possess extensive experience in dealing with fear-inducing poison gas.
Sometimes, "I have a friend" really means I have a friend.
Where are your friends?
The situation was urgent, and Batman had to handle it in a special way.
Zheng En didn't plan to tell him the truth so quickly. Actions speak louder than words. "You'll understand when he shows up."
Batman glanced at Jung Eun sitting in the passenger seat, and while driving, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of person this so-called "friend" would appear in.
Knowing that Zheng En wouldn't speak again anytime soon, he silently started the Batmobile.
If this had happened when they first met, Batman would definitely have asked him for details. If the other party insisted on not talking about it, he would have done his own research and would not have believed Zheng En.
He trusted himself more than the guy with an unknown background.
But they've known each other for a while now.
They knew each other's hidden identities beneath their calm exteriors; the other had helped him more than once, and he also had some understanding of Jung Eun's character.
This doesn't mean Batman will lower his guard against Jung, but this trust acts like a weight on a scale, allowing him to shift in a certain direction when making decisions.
As they entered the Bat Cave, Zheng En was still amazed. Things were going much more smoothly than he had imagined, and the Bat Cave was much larger than he had expected.
The scene before them was a combination of a cave and a high-tech laboratory. A British butler in a suit nodded slightly. "Welcome back, young master. I am Alfred. It is a pleasure to meet you, esteemed guest."
This was the first time Zheng En had ever dealt with someone so formally. "Hello, Alfred, just call me Zheng En."
o
Batman strode toward the computer, where a huge blue screen was projected into the air, like a scene from a science fiction movie. Zheng En followed closely behind him. The screen showed a view divided into several windows, including the entrance to the Batcave.
Zheng En glanced at it briefly and could tell that the scenes included the main transportation routes and activity locations from the Upper Town to the Lower Town. There was the brightly lit Gotham Police Department with people hurrying by, as well as the port filled with containers and guarded by men in black suits with guns.
Before they returned, Alfred was clearly using the computer, searching for potentially useful information, and only got up to greet them after seeing them return. "I searched the footage from tonight; those people in scarecrow costumes were scattered throughout Gotham, and these are some of the people who appeared on surveillance."
Alfred explained the origin of the window on the screen.
So these were still filtered?
Zheng En was stunned. He thought all those densely packed windows were here, but it turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg!
With such a knack for digging holes, he might as well change his name to Mole Man.
"Thank you for your help, Alfred."
The dense array of windows on the screen was also a challenge for Batman. He handed the candy to Alfred, and as soon as he turned around, he saw Zheng En touching the computer.
"Can I use this space?"
Here? Batman keenly realized Zheng En's choice of words: not "this," but "here."
He nodded, but Zheng En did nothing. Suddenly, the number of windows on the screen decreased, leaving only about a dozen shots with scarecrows in the frame.
"These are the ordinary citizens who were excluded based on their behavior."
Batman's voice echoed inside the Batcave: "The riots caused by Scarecrow are still escalating. There are now casualties across Gotham due to panic. Police resources are heavily skewed towards the Upper City, while riots have broken out in several locations in the Lower City, where the chaos is even more severe."
New windows appeared on the screen one after another as he spoke. In many parts of Gotham, there were no streetlights at night, and one could only see by moonlight. In this dim environment, the faint lights were particularly noticeable.
"Current surveillance footage shows that many gangs have become embroiled in infighting. The Falcone and Maroni families, both under Roman control, have been locked in serious conflict, with the gang war escalating and drawing in their subordinate gangs."
The lighting at the port was much better, and you could see two groups of the He gang roaring and exchanging fire. The advantages and disadvantages were quite obvious, with one group advancing like a whirlwind and the other retreating steadily.
"The specific reasons for the attack are still unclear, but it is certain that the Falcone family struck first. They seem to have anticipated the chaos tonight, successfully intercepted the latest shipment from the Maroni family, burned down warehouses of some rival gangs, including the Maroni family, and destroyed more than ten business premises."
I knew it! The scarecrow had been hiding for so long without being caught, but how did it have the money and resources to cause such a huge mess? It was definitely another powerful alliance of villains.
Zheng En clicked his tongue, not surprised at all. After all, when he first transmigrated, he was arrested by the corrupt cops in Arkham, who were in league with Falcone, who in turn were in league with Scarecrow Klein.
Batman's words did not stop, and more and more windows appeared on the screen, with the scenes inside becoming increasingly chaotic.
"A riot broke out in the Giordano Botanical Garden, and the plants grew wildly."
The overgrown vines obscured the couple arguing in the botanical garden, and also blocked the security cameras.
"Strange noises came from the sewers, and as the homeless man fled in terror, he revealed that there seemed to be wild animals fighting down below."
O
Near the flickering streetlights was a manhole cover. When the homeless man lifted the cover and fled, he didn't even have time to pick up his shoes that had fallen off his feet. His screams echoed through the bat cave through the speaker.
