Chapter 87 Happy Manor
Chapter 87 Happy Manor
With King Kong regaining consciousness, Zhang Niu's life began to return to normal. King Kong was also gradually recovering; although he couldn't stand up yet, he could already growl softly at the noisy wild boar cubs.
Zhang Niu began to bring up the matter of opening the mountain villa on the agenda. Preliminary work still needed to be done, and after inspecting the bamboo building, Zhang Niu realized that many things were still missing.
Looking at the missing items in the building, Zhang Niu slowly exhaled. It seemed he would have to go to the county town to buy them, otherwise the villa wouldn't even look like a proper villa.
After quickly changing his clothes, Zhang Niu headed straight for the county town. Having a license made him feel much more at ease on the road, and he wasn't afraid of being stopped by other vehicles.
Zhang Niu visited many furniture stores in the county town, but none of them found a bamboo bed he liked. It wasn't that they were too expensive, but rather that they didn't seem to match his bamboo house.
After visiting five furniture stores, Zhang Niu finally found a bamboo bed that satisfied him at a street corner. It was an incredibly rustic bamboo bed, and the place mainly sold bamboo products.
After some haggling, Zhang Niu and his boss bought a lot of bamboo beds. Fortunately, Zhang Niu's bamboo house didn't have many rooms, so in addition to the bamboo beds, he also bought bamboo rocking chairs, bamboo combs, and many other bamboo products.
After leaving a deposit and address, the bamboo craftsman said he would deliver the goods tomorrow.
Finally, I got one thing done. Running around to stores is really tiring, especially haggling.
As Zhang Niu rode his motorcycle past a restaurant, he caught the attention of several police cars parked in front of the rather upscale restaurant on the side of the road.
Zhang Niu was a person who loved watching excitement, so he stopped the car and walked towards the crowd.
"What a tragedy! Such pitiful animals are being eaten by rich people!" an old man shouted.
"I never knew a restaurant like this had such good food. I wish I had known. If I had known, I would have come and tried it." A young man muttered to himself. His words drew glares from those nearby.
"He looks so polite, I never expected him to have no sense of public morality."
"What are you looking at? It's just talk, a bunch of idiots." The young man shouted and squeezed out of the crowd.
Zhang Niu, who was walking in from outside, also heard the commotion. Hearing everyone arguing, he decided to go in and see what was going on.
As Zhang Niu squeezed through the crowd, he noticed rows of black iron cages placed at the entrance of the restaurant. Inside were familiar rare animals such as snakes, pangolins, and sika deer.
No wonder there was such a large crowd; they were talking about the sale of rare animals.
Early this morning, law enforcement officers raided this restaurant to crack down on the illegal sale of rare animals.
In the distance, two people in white uniforms were directing the loading of the iron cages onto the vehicle one by one.
Are they cracking down on this lately? I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the news when I get back. These days, Zhang Niu feels a particular aversion to restaurants that illegally sell rare animals, especially those with potbellied bellies.
"This time the government has finally done something good."
"Yes, these animals are quite pitiful. But everyone's living standards have improved now. These days, you can get anything that flies in the sky or runs on the ground as long as you pay the price."
People were discussing and pointing. Zhang Niu squeezed out of the crowd and said, "Yeah, this time we've done something good. No wonder there were notices posted in town from above. I thought it was just a formality, but it turns out it's real."
After leaving the crowd of onlookers, Zhang Niu still had to run to the GG store to find someone to draw a GG picture. Originally, Zhang Niu didn't want one, but after thinking about it again, he decided to hang one at the intersection.
They found a decent-looking GG (boyfriend/girlfriend) shop. After going inside and explaining things, Zhang Niu sat down in a chair and watched the girl's fingers fly across the keyboard. He secretly admired how skilled girls were at using computers these days.
The girl showed Zhang Niu a number of photos. After looking at them carefully, he chose a picture of a bamboo house, followed by a picture of mountains and rivers. There were also some tempting pictures of cherries and other fruits.
Zhang Niu was very pleased with the design created on the computer. The bamboo house hidden in the mountains, the landscape left by the high mountains, and the words "Happy Mountain Villa" perfectly captured the mood.
After confirming the design, things progressed quickly. When Zhang Niu came out in the afternoon, he already had a rolled-up piece of paper with him, and he planned to make a wooden frame to stand up by the mountain road.
The furniture store delivered the goods to Happy Lodge early the next morning. The owner then learned that the young man planned to open a resort. He couldn't help but praise the young man's talent, noting that even he himself was interested in such a place.
After the deliverymen left, Zhang Niu busied himself carrying the bamboo beds inside. Fortunately, the bamboo beds were relatively light, and they looked as if they had just been made, as you could still smell the bamboo.
The furnishings inside the three bamboo houses are all quite similar, simple and unpretentious. The light bulbs inside have all been replaced with energy-saving bulbs, which are not glaring and feel comfortable.
With everything nearly finished, all that was left was to choose a date, as the saying goes, "choose an auspicious day to open a business." After asking my parents at home, I looked at the calendar and realized that May Day was just around the corner, and that day seemed like a good one.
Therefore, the opening date was set for May Day.
Time flies, flowers bloom and fade, and then the green fruits appear on the trees.
May Day is Labor Day, and the weather is lovely today, with clear blue skies and clouds. The gentle breeze in the morning is especially refreshing.
The opening of the game in the morning is always lively, and Zhang Niu had notified many people well in advance.
Just after eight o'clock, while Zhang Niu was still busy inside, a beeping sound rang out from the open space outside.
Zhang Niu didn't need to guess; it was definitely that fat Qian honking his horn outside—it's become a habit.
"What are you pressing? The whole neighborhood can probably hear you." Zhang Niu, who had just stepped outside, saw three cars parked in front of the pond.
"Isn't it because I'm afraid you'll run into the orchard?" Fatty Qian chuckled a few times.
"Get lost, I'm busy today, of course I'm at home." I simply ignored that.
Besides Boss Wang and Boss Zhou, the two men who had gone fishing with him last time also got out of the car. This surprised Zhang Niu; he hadn't expected them to come.
"Congratulations, this is just a small token of my appreciation for your business opening." Boss Wang pulled out a long, heavy-looking box from the back of his car.
"Thank you, please come inside and sit down." He gestured for them to come in and sit down.
"Yes, it's a good day, so I turned down some guests. We should have a few more drinks at noon," said Boss Zhou.
"This is just a small matter, I'm very happy that you could come." Zhang Niu informed them as soon as the date was set.
Fatty Qian slapped Zhang Niu on the shoulder. "Now that you've opened this resort, we can come here to relax whenever we have free time. The environment here is nice. It's a real waste to open a resort so late." He felt a little sorry for Zhang Niu opening the resort so late.
Everyone was thinking the same thing: the sooner this great location opens, the sooner we can make money.
"It didn't look like much before, but now it's starting to resemble a mountain resort. When you first brought the fruit tree seedlings, this place was still desolate." He couldn't help but recall the beginning.
The willows by the pond are now sprouting tender buds, and the emerald green lotus leaves in the pond are dotted with water droplets. Many red-headed dragonflies flit across the water.
"But we should still congratulate you when you open your resort." Fatty Qian nodded.
Boss Wang and his team have made a name for themselves in the county town with their "Immortal Duck" dish made from ducks provided by Xiao Zhang. Even people from the city drive here to try it.
Everyone followed Zhang Niu to the small pavilion in the front yard.
"Sit down, I'll go in and get some drinks." He turned and went inside.
This was the second time Boss Li and his group had come. They hadn't seen much of the place the last time, so this time they had Fatty Qian call them over, saying they wanted to come and have some fun at this newly opened resort.
He handed them several bottles of soda one by one, saying, "I didn't buy any drinks. Just have something to drink."
"It's okay, it's not hot now and I can't drink that much anyway," Fatty Qian said, already opening the bottle and taking a few gulps. Zhang Niu was speechless; this guy was just bragging about everything.
"Then you guys sit here for a while. I'm going back to the village to get ready to pick them up," Zhang Niu said a little embarrassed.
Needless to say, Fatty Qian and the others all knew that Zhang Niu was probably going back to the village to bring over someone of higher seniority, just like when they invited someone from the city.
The can of drink was quickly finished by Fatty Qian. "It's delicious. It feels great to have a drink in the morning, especially in a place like this."
"Old Qian, I think you should lose some weight. Look how fat you've gotten lately," Old Zhou said, looking at the fat man's big belly.
"No way, you're just jealous of how much you eat." He chuckled.
This made them burst into laughter. "Have you had any surprise inspections of your restaurant recently?" Boss Li asked casually, sipping his drink.
"Yes, it seems like it was a few days ago. Early in the morning, a lot of people came to my restaurant, saying it was a surprise inspection." Old Wang quickly remembered this.
"Don't even mention you, I came here at noon too, and it scared me so much that business was much worse that day." Old Zhou was furious when he mentioned this.
"The whole city is cracking down on the sale of rare animals right now. Your restaurant should be fine, right?"
The two nodded. "Yeah, we usually make the 'Immortal Duck' dish. We usually just buy vegetables and meat. What's wrong with us?"
"I heard this crackdown was initiated by the city leadership. Rumor has it that a city official received a phone call from an old friend one day, and the next morning at a meeting, he made the decision, leading to the crackdown. I heard they haven't caught many poachers this time, and there's also the black market for animal hides. They also say restaurants are among the targets this time," Boss Li revealed.
Old Wang and the others only learned the whole story after listening. They heard that before the news even spread, many places in the surrounding counties had already been sealed off. But this secretary's old friend is really a big shot.
"It seems like your 'Immortal Duck' brand is pretty good," Boss Jiang asked.
"Yeah, there's just not enough stock, and people are making a fuss about it every day." The vegetables are good, but the ducks are scarce, so there's nothing Old Wang and the others can do.
"Sitting here is so boring, let's go for a walk," Fatty Qian suggested. Actually, Fatty Qian was scared when he saw the three red cherry blossoms on the tree, so he quickly ran out first.
After sitting for a while, everyone stood up and went outside to take a look around.
When I came out, there were already quite a few kids outside. It was the May Day holiday, and all the kids in the village had come to Happy Little House for this lively occasion.
The wild boar piglets were very excited, running around and playing with the little furry children.
"It's really lively here," said the children playing in the pond.
Everyone went inside the small bamboo pavilion. Now, the pavilion is furnished with bamboo tables and a circle of chairs, looking quite proper.
First update.
