Chapter 1127 Intensity Upgrade
Chapter 1127 Intensity Upgrade
The second void gate opened.
This was as if a door to space had been smashed open, instantly bringing immense pressure to the continent of Bestar.
Because it is located on this continent.
The appearance of this door will completely rewrite the war landscape of the world of Aegira.
The previously easy situation is no longer so simple.
The massive rift that stretched across the Black Swamp region of the North was far superior to the previous void rifts that could only spew out low-level monsters.
It is far beyond what low-level Void Practice can compare to.
As the void's consumption of the world becomes increasingly exaggerated, the void gates it can open will become larger and larger.
The only good thing is that only one Void Gate will appear.
When this void gate appears, it means that the void gate that was initially opened has already been closed.
The problem is that this void portal is larger than the first one when it opened, because it has already swallowed more than a quarter of the world.
Instead of opening it on the continent of Lebia, they chose to do so on the continent of Bestar.
For a moment, some of the fortress commanders showed resentment, feeling that they were extremely unlucky.
This void gate was the size of an inverted mountain, with viscous, tangible purple energy flowing along its edges.
The whispers that came from inside the door were no longer soft murmurs, but a piercing scream that could tear the soul apart.
If the phantom of the dragon of life and death had not appeared in time with the sea of consciousness of all living beings, purifying the mental pollution with scorching dragon flames, this sound wave alone would have been enough to drive the ordinary soldiers on the defensive line into madness.
Even more terrifying was what was pouring out from inside the door.
The first to pass through the gate were seven giant creatures shaped like floating ships.
Their outlines are roughly elongated ellipses, their bodies are covered with thick bio-armor, and large, irregularly growing purple crystals are embedded in the gaps between the shells.
These crystals pulsate slightly, radiating a heart-pounding energy.
As one of them adjusted its direction and slowly swam toward the node fortress numbered "Anvil-7", its body began to undergo a horrifying transformation.
It turns out that the oval shape was just the prototype. It will start to transform its body to attack the target it wants to move towards.
With a screeching, pulling, and writhing sound.
The monster in the sky has changed.
The crystal armor at the front opened up and proliferated layer by layer, and one huge limb after another emerged from the body.
Three thick tentacles, each over four meters in diameter, suddenly extended out, reaching lengths of ten to twenty meters.
Look closely.
Each tentacle is covered with rotating, serrated bone blades, with unstable, purplish-black energy spheres condensing at its tips.
But these changes alone are not the end of the story.
At the same time, six slits opened in its abdomen, and six huge compound eyes opened one after another, their cold gazes locking onto the fortress on the ground.
These eyes looking down from the sky bring immense psychological pressure, and just looking at them makes one feel a chill.
"Target identified! Void living warship, codenamed 'City Eater,' threat level: High-Legendary!"
The observer on the watchtower cried out in a trembling voice, "It's coming towards us!"
Before he finished speaking, all six compound eyes flashed simultaneously.
"call out!"
Six condensed purple beams tore through the air and slammed into the "Order Deflection Barrier" surrounding the fortress.
The barrier trembled violently, with two of the void waves deflected to the sides, instantly evaporating hundreds of ordinary void creatures, but the remaining four waves pierced through the weak points of the barrier.
A beam of light grazed the crenellations of the city wall, turning half of the alchemical crossbow turret, along with the five dwarf gunners operating it, into ashes.
Another attack struck the middle of a mage tower, causing it to collapse and the internal rune array to overload and explode, with fragments mixed with residual magical flames scattering across the sky.
Everything happened too fast, causing damage to the fortress in an instant.
Inside the command room of Anvil-7 Fortress, alarms blared.
Commander Carlos Anvil slammed his fist on the edge of the tactical sand table, causing the light and shadow models on the sand table to shake.
"All fortresses to maximum alert! Mage towers, prioritize maintaining the barrier and plug the gap! All ranged fire, aim at that thing's joints and eyes, blast it to smithereens!"
However, the threat is far more than just this one "city devourer".
The six node fortresses, arranged in an arc in front of the second void gate, each welcomed their corresponding giant prey.
These living warships seemed to possess basic intelligence, as they autonomously divided their targets and pressed towards their respective chosen fortresses.
And all of them showed different forms of deformation.
At the same time, threats on the ground and in the air are escalating simultaneously.
Amidst the purple tide, monsters resembling giant crabs were the first to break through their own kind and rush to the front lines.
Standing twelve meters tall, its six arthropod legs moved in a dazzling, alternating motion, kicking up clouds of dust.
Its head had no facial features, only a huge bone cone protruding forward and covered with spiral patterns, the tip of which shimmered with ripples of spatial distortion—it was essentially a living battering ram.
It charged straight toward the main gate of Anvil-7 Fortress, leaving deep cracks in the ground in its wake.
"Heavy crossbow positions, focus fire on that crab! Don't let it crash into the door!" the frontline captain roared.
The heavy alchemical crossbows on the city wall changed direction, and thick, armor-piercing bolts shot out, trailing sonic boom clouds.
However, when the crossbow bolts struck the monster's carapace, they burst into a series of sparks, most of them were deflected, and only three were deeply embedded in the joint gaps.
The monster's charge slowed slightly, but did not stop, and the light from the tip of the bone cone grew even brighter.
What's even more troublesome are the clusters of purple crystals floating in the sky.
These crystals, about the size of a human head, have a smooth, mirror-like surface. They move nimbly through the air above the battlefield, sometimes splitting open to spray out concentrated void energy projectiles downwards.
Some crystals even attach directly to the surface of large void organisms, like external artillery emplacements, continuously bombarding the city walls.
An energy blast landed in the middle of the city wall, creating a two-meter-diameter breach. The two human shield guards stationed there were instantly engulfed by purple flames, without even a scream.
The new flying unit in the sky is tentatively codenamed "Void Serpent".
These flying creatures became a nightmare for the defending air defenses.
They are five to eight meters long, with slender bodies wrapped in energy ribbons, their flight trajectories are unpredictable, and their speed is as fast as lightning.
The swarm of snakes evaded the mage tower's locking beam, swooping down and slipping through the gaps in the crenellations, attacking archers and mages with their poisonous energy fangs. Screams echoed across the city walls.
The bloody battle on the city wall: The third section of the western city wall of Anvil-7 Fortress has now been turned into a meat grinder.
"Hold on! Push the shield wall forward half a step! Create space for the backline!"
The voice of the human shieldmaster, Blake, was already hoarse.
He wore heavy armor resistant to corrosion, held a giant shield engraved with the rune of "Stabilize", his shoulders were pressed against the bottom edge of the shield, and his feet were firmly planted on the ground.
Behind him, twelve shield guards formed a tight arc, their shield edges interlocking to form a metal barrier.
Beyond the barrier, the Void's minions surge forth in a frenzy.
These distorted, primitive creatures have no intelligence, only the instinct to devour. They slash at the shields with bone blades, spray the shield surfaces with acid, and even try to squeeze through the gaps in the shields.
The purplish-black blood and acid splattered on the shield, making a hissing corrosion sound. If it weren't for the orderly energy coating on the shield surface, it would have been melted through long ago.
"Now—Stab!" Blake roared.
The shield wall retreated slightly by half a foot, and the spearmen who had been poised behind it simultaneously thrust forward.
Thirty alchemically enhanced spears shot out like venomous snakes from the gaps in the shields, precisely piercing the joints, eye sockets, or throats of the front-row void creatures.
The "Order Breaks Evil" rune attached to the spear tip glowed faintly, dealing additional damage to the essence of the void.
After a piercing, teeth-grinding sound, the dozen or so monsters in the front row convulsed and collapsed to the ground.
"Put back your spears! Push forward in front of the shield wall!" Blake ordered again.
The shield guards shouted in unison and pushed forward with all their might, knocking the monsters that surged forward behind them and giving the spearmen precious time to retract their spears and thrust again.
However, the number of monsters is endless.
As soon as a small area was cleared, more monsters immediately filled it.
A void creature resembling a giant centipede sprang up from the pile of corpses, leaped over the shield wall, and charged straight at the dwarven crossbowmen squad in the back row.
"Get out of the way!" A lithe figure leaped into the air.
Elf Ranger Alila drew her twin swords, the blades weaving a silver net in the air as she precisely severed all the centipede monster's limbs.
The monster crashed to the ground, and before it could even struggle, Elira flipped over and landed, her twin blades piercing its head, ending its life.
She gasped for breath and shouted to the crossbowmen, "Don't stop! Keep suppressing the crystals in the distance!"
The dwarven crossbowmen gritted their teeth and nodded, the triggers of their repeating crossbows clicking incessantly as their specially made "magic-piercing bolts" arced through the air, shooting towards the purple crystals that were firing continuously.
A crossbow bolt struck the crystal core by chance, causing the crystal to shatter and the void energy stored inside to explode out of control, which in turn dragged several flying monsters nearby into the explosion.
But the pressure continues to increase.
The city wall had several gaps, and the repair engineers braved arrows and energy blasts to desperately fill them with quick-setting gold cement.
Medics moved behind the battle line, dragging the seriously wounded off the city wall and administering emergency neutralizing agents.
A young human soldier was bitten on the shoulder by a snake, and his entire arm quickly turned purple. He screamed as his comrades dragged him away, and his position was immediately filled by the reserves.
"Commander! Third request for magic cannon support! We have at least three enhanced mutants gathered here!"
Blake roared at the communication crystal.
A few seconds later, the magic turret in the center of the fortress slightly adjusted its angle.
The cannon muzzle lit up with a blinding blue-white light, followed by a thick beam of lightning that ripped through the battlefield and slammed into the center of the monster horde outside the third section of the city wall.
The lightning exploded, creating a purification zone twenty meters in diameter, instantly carbonizing all void creatures within it. The shockwave blew away monsters on the outer edges, easing the pressure on the city walls.
"Well done!" Blake coughed up a mouthful of bloody saliva. "Brothers, catch your breath and get ready for the next wave! Don't forget, we're right in the heart of Leviathan, we can't retreat an inch!"
A renewed determination ignited on the soldiers' weary faces. They quickly checked their weapons, replenished their arrows, and took stamina potions.
Beneath the city walls, the corpses of monsters had piled up like mountains, but the purple tide continued to surge, seemingly without end.
Deadly threat in the sky
At this moment, the greatest crisis is looming overhead.
The living warship codenamed "City Eater" had already sailed to within a kilometer of the Anvil-7 fortress.
Its six compound eyes scanned constantly, searching for weaknesses in the barrier. Purple beams shot out intermittently, each time forcing the mage tower to deflect at full force.
Three enormous tentacles slowly danced in the air, the energy spheres condensing at their tips growing ever larger, clearly gathering some kind of destructive attack.
Inside the central mage tower at the highest point of the fortress, twelve elves and human mages formed a ring, doing their utmost to maintain the "wide-area deflection force field".
The presiding mage's forehead was covered in sweat, and his robes were soaked through.
"No... its energy intensity is too high, and the deflection consumption is ten times that of normal! We can only hold on for three more minutes at most!"
Commander Carlos stared at the enormous shadow in the crystal ball, his face ashen.
A level 13 legendary void creation, whose life level is close to the threshold of the Apocalypse, is difficult to kill with conventional weapons.
The strongest fighter in the fortress was himself—a level 11 peak warrior. Even if he activated all his burst abilities, he would have no chance of defeating such a monster in a head-on confrontation.
Just then, five dazzling streaks of light streaked across the sky, like shooting stars piercing through the gloom.
The light fell on the platform outside the central mage tower, revealing five figures.
They wore the Night's Watch's "Warden of Order" armor, the surface of which shimmered with a faint divine light.
The leader was a human male with a resolute face, carrying a cross-shaped greatsword almost as tall as himself on his back—Galvin, the captain of the Soul Keeper squad and a level twelve legendary warrior.
Behind him were four teammates.
Thran, the level 11 legendary elven archer; Gronn, the level 11 legendary dwarf shieldbearer and engineer; Lina, the level 11 legendary half-elf arcane mage; and Leona, the level 11 legendary human paladin.
"The Soul Guardian Squad - Falling Star, under orders from the Supreme Command, has come to eliminate the 'City Devourer' level threat."
Calvin's steady and powerful voice instantly dispelled the oppressive atmosphere in the command room.
"Commander Carlos, please cooperate with us to create an opening for the attack."
Carlos's spirits lifted: "What kind of cooperation is needed?"
Three things.
Calvin spoke very quickly, “First, the mage tower continues to deflect its energy beams, but it doesn’t have to deflect them all. It can deliberately let some of the beams miss their trajectory toward its own tentacles or eyes—we will use a guiding spell to assist.”
Second, all long-range firepower should focus on attacking the connection points of those purple crystals on its surface when we launch the surprise attack; those are its energy nodes.
Third, prepare the 'Order Anchor Chain'—if we successfully cripple it, we need to immediately imprison it to prevent it from detonating the core upon crashing and affecting the fortress.
"Understood!" Carlos immediately turned around and issued a series of orders through the communication network.
Calvin turned to the team members, his gaze sweeping over each face.
"Thran, your 'Disruptive Arrow' is responsible for destroying its compound eyes and interrupting the beam barrage. Gronn, you and Lina coordinate to attack its left flank with 'Resonance Collapse'—(End of Chapter)"
