Chapter 2352 - 2328: Peril Lurks Everywhere
Gao Yang changed into a robe that was essentially a skirt, and wore a headscarf. As Sana’a is a high-altitude city, the climate is not particularly hot. Therefore, Gao Yang could wear a thin jacket over the white robe.
But when it came time to change shoes, Gao Yang really felt uncomfortable because he couldn’t accept wearing slippers no matter what.
How would he run if a fight broke out wearing slippers? If he wore a pair of combat boots instead, then there was no point in changing clothes at all.
After hesitating for a long time, Gao Yang finally decided to take a compromise by taking off the conspicuous high-top combat boots and changing into low-cut combat boots that looked like sneakers.
After changing clothes and having dinner, later in the night, Salim finally brought Abdullah’s latest decisions.
Traveling overnight to Sana’a, preparing to welcome or create the impending chaos.
Setting off after one o’clock, Satan and the Black Demon moved towards Sana’a, while Rebrov’s artillery convoy followed behind Gao Yang’s group, and with the artillery, Gao Yang was truly unwilling to leave it unused.
After a night of forced march, just as dawn was approaching, the Black Demon continued forward into the urban area of Sana’a, while Satan led by Gao Yang along with the artillery unit turned off the main road, heading into the mountains of the Mount Abang range.
Sana’a hasn’t erupted into battle yet, and although the Houthis Armed Forces are rampant in Sana’a, it is still not their territory. Transporting large cannons into the city openly would certainly be courting trouble.
Therefore, Gao Yang’s group needed to temporarily wait in the mountainous area north of the city.
The cars entered the mountain area; the roads were predictably rough, but once off-road, it wasn’t too difficult because most of Yemen’s mountains are bare, devoid of trees or similar obstacles. As long as the terrain wasn’t too steep, the cars could drive pretty much anywhere.
Once the sun was up, Gao Yang and his group stopped in a mountain hollow between two hills.
The altitude near Sana’a is quite high; it’s colder at night, but once the sun rises, temperatures soar quickly. During the night march, the open car windows made it feel chilly, but in the day, the heat was intolerable, though it was better than Hamelin.
Jumping out of the car, Gao Yang looked around briefly, swung his arm, and the convoy began dispersing. Everyone got out of their cars and started looking for suitable camping spots.
Rebrov also had his own command vehicle. He drove it directly in front of Gao Yang, jumped out and shouted, "Boss, should we set up the artillery positions?"
Gao Yang signaled Rebrov to wait a moment, then shouted to Jansen, "Big Bird, our position."
After Jansen checked the GPS for the location, he immediately said, "Boss, we are at the predetermined position. Sana’a International Airport is eight kilometers east of us, and the primary target in Sana’a City is nine kilometers away."
Gao Yang waved to Rebrov and shouted, "Within firing range, set up the artillery positions and camouflage them."
After instructing Rebrov to set up the artillery positions, Gao Yang walked forward a few steps carrying his gun, frowning as he looked at the group of people who had just jumped out of their cars.
Abdullah had given Gao Yang two hundred men, primarily to receive training from Satan, and Gao Yang could direct them as needed and lead them into combat if necessary.
Abdullah’s sincerity was clear; he provided two hundred people along with thirty-eight vehicles, including two old cars mounted with heavy machine guns, while most of the rest were pickups. These two hundred individuals were considered quite fortunate in the Houthis Armed Forces, possessing high mobility.
They had plenty of vehicles, but as for the people, to be honest, they weren’t very impressive.
The Houthis Armed Forces claim a troop strength of a hundred thousand, but the quality of the soldiers is not worth overthinking.
Yemen is the country with the highest rate of gun ownership globally, even surpassing that of America. Here, everyone has a gun and everyone knows how to shoot. People fire guns during weddings and funerals instead of setting off firecrackers.
The issue is that for Yemenis, knowing how to shoot qualifies one as a warrior, so the people Abdullah assigned to Gao Yang, in Gao Yang’s view, are subpar.
Seeing the cars stop one after another, once they all came to a halt, Gao Yang addressed the soldiers who were now under his command loudly for the first time, "Gather around me, assemble!"
Some people approached Gao Yang, others shouted unknown things from the cars, while groups of three to five started chatting and laughing.
After five minutes, only forty to fifty people stood in front of Gao Yang, scattered in loose bunches.
Gao Yang thought they might not understand him, so he called over Salim, saying solemnly, "Tell them for me, have everyone gather around me, let them all come here and stand before me."
Salim shouted a few times on behalf of Gao Yang, and Gao Yang noticed Salim’s shouting was similar to his, yet the anticipated scenario still hadn’t occurred.
Some checked the cars, others stepped aside to urinate, some chatted and laughed as they walked towards Gao Yang, while a few seemed oblivious, sitting by the pickups lost in thought. Even a tall middle-aged man with an AK74U shouted a few times and ended up with thirty others heading towards him.
Differences in height and age were irrelevant; not even standing in formation seemed normal. Nevertheless, when Gao Yang began calling everyone to gather in front of him, only half the people reluctantly stood before him after quite some time, which truly tested Gao Yang’s patience.
If orders aren’t obeyed, how could such a team be led into battle?
Last night Salim brought them to Gao Yang. This was Gao Yang’s first direct encounter with the soldiers, and immediately, he faced an unpleasant surprise.
Seeing Gao Yang’s face darken, Salim awkwardly said, "Mr. Petram, sorry, but these men have always been like this. Umm, they are all seasoned veterans with years of combat experience, so some arrogance is fairly normal. Yet they are experienced old hands, look how they have matching uniforms."
Gao Yang’s mouth twitched a few times and he muttered, "These damned soldiers!"
After cursing under his breath, Gao Yang returned to the car and fetched a loudspeaker. Experience had taught him that dealing with this type of soldier was tiring without one.
Gao Yang’s tone was calm, but his words carried a looming threat, "Everyone, gather in front of me within two minutes. Anyone exceeding the time limit will be considered insubordinate. Insubordinate will be executed on the spot!"
